Apparently one of the guys they lived with, Kevin AKA Haysey, had invited the whole team over. Travis tried to look like he had no idea but he's not a very good liar.
"Travis," I glared at him. "You told me it was only going to be the two of them I was meeting tonight."
"I didn't know he invited them all." he shrugged but stopped when I turned to look him in the eyes.
"Travis Konecny, I can tell when you're lying to me."
"Well, um you see..." he trailed off, his face turning bright red.
"HEY TK! Where you been?" a voice said from the kitchen and Travis breathed a sigh of relief and quickly scurried to the kitchen to his friend. I glared after him before following Ava to her room to put my bag down. I threw myself on Ava's bed face first and just laid there as she sat next to me and rubbed my back.
"I had no idea Jaz, the guys are over a lot and they usually don't bother me so they don't keep me in the loop." I groaned into the mattress.
"It's fine. I had to meet them all soon anyway, might as well get it over with right?" I sighed, sitting up and rubbing my hands over my face. She nodded eagerly next to me.
"They really are cool guys, sounded like Provy in the kitchen, if we hurry you might be able to meet him first and kind of work your way through them slowly." I nodded and got off the bed, gesturing with my hand for her to lead the way.
I walked into the kitchen and Travis turned and looked sheepishly at me.
"You're forgiven this time, but only because I've missed you and don't want to spend my whole night mad at you and ruin it." he smiled wide before throwing his arm around my shoulder and turning me so I was facing Provy.
"Jazzi, this is Ivan Provorov, Provy, this is Jazzi - my best friend." I smiled at the cute guy standing in front of me and shook his hand.
"She's interviewing tomorrow to be the social media manager for the team." Ava said as she grabbed a soda for me and her out of the fridge and handed me one.
"That's awesome, we've been needing a new one, I know Ava here is tired of having to do both jobs right now."
"I'm seriously not entertaining enough. I'm excited to see what Jazzi can do, she did a hell of a job for the Avalanche the last couple of years."
"You did the Avs' social media? You're definitely entertaining then." Provy smirked. "Probably my favorite team to follow for a good laugh." I smiled and blushed a little.
"I try. The guys were really easy to work with and made my job super easy too, not much they wouldn't do if I asked." I gave Travis a look out the corner of my eye.
"Don't look at me, you can't boss me around yet. Even then I'm going to stand my ground." I rolled my eyes, knowing he would do anything I asked him to.
"Oh, I know my limits with you. I'll try not to skate too far over the line." I winked and laughed as Travis put his face in his hands.
"What have I done?" he mumbled into his hands before I grabbed them and pulled them away from his face.
"You loved me too much for me to be so far away Travy, just suck it up. It'll be awhile before I really push it," I laughed."Gotta get to know everyone else first."
The night went pretty well, I stayed close to Ava as she slowly took me around the backyard to meet everyone. All the boys were super nice and I could tell we would get along great if I got the job, and that my job was going to be made much easier due to them being a very fun group. It was getting close to midnight and all the boys had gone home and me and Ava were sitting on the counter in the kitchen snacking on ice cream when I realised out of everyone I had met, there was one name missing.
"Hey, didn't you say there was a Pat? Did I miss him or are you hiding him from me for some reason?" I joked.
"Oh, he's not here tonight. I think he was going to dinner with friends from out of town or something. Will probably be home sometime tomorrow."
"I guess I can just meet him at practice." I shrugged and Ava shook her head.
"He won't be there, but I can bring you back here sometime to meet him or something."
"He won't be there?"
"He was diagnosed with a migraine disorder, he isn't allowed to practice until he's better." she whispered looking sad.
"Oh. How long has he been out? Do they know when he'll be back?"
"You should be a reporter," she giggled. "No, they have no idea. It's a long story and the diagnosis is kinda confusing, but I know he hates it and wishes like hell he could be out there. We try and be there for him as much as possible and keep him happy but its tough." I nodded in agreement.
The next morning I got up to a few messages on my phone from my mom telling me she was home and would see me later today and goodluck. There were a couple from friends from school wishing me luck. I smiled when I saw the one that was at the top, from this morning around 4 am.
Josty: did you die? im just going to assume you got there safe and just hate me now
Me: I could never hate you Josty, got busy sorry! :*
Josty: oh there you are! too busy for your bestest friend. i get it. i do. old news.
I smiled at my phone as Ava walked out of the bathroom with her hair wrapped in a towel from the shower.
"Who you smiling at? Boyfriend?" I shook my head.
"I used to hope for that," I giggled. "We're better as besties though."
Me: youre so dramaticccccc. you know i love you. i gotta get ready for interview call you when its over?
Josty: love you too, good luck. or not. if you don't get it youll come home right? jk good luck!
I shook my head and plugged my phone into the speaker on the nightstand and turned the music up as loud as it would go as I jumped in the shower to get my day started.
After my shower I dried and straightened my hair before applying the minimal amount of makeup before slipping on my grey dress pants and navy blue button up shirt with silver pinstripes. I walked into Ava's room from the bathroom and she let out a whistle.
"I'd give you the job on looks alone." she laughed, fanning herself with my resume. I rolled my eyes but smiled at her.
"Thanks, I'm so nervous. Can you hand me my shoes?" she threw my shoes at me and I slipped them on quickly before grabbing my purse.
"Ok, I think I'm ready, lets do this." I said as I followed her out to the living room.
"Oh! I forgot my keys wait here I'll be right back." she hurried back into her room and I stood against the wall, looking down at my phone for the time when someone bumped into me almost knocking me over but catching me before I could hit the ground.
"I am so sorry, I wasn't paying attention I didn't see you standing there." he said.
"It's okay, I should have picked a better place to stand." I laughed nervously, smoothing out my shirt and looking up, my face flushing bright red.
"Oh hey Pat! Wasn't sure if you'd be home yet, this is Jazzi, she's going to interview to be the social media manager for the team, we grew up together. Jazzi, this is Nolan Patrick."
"Nice to finally meet you." I stammered.
"Nice to meet you too, you guys leaving now?" Ava and I nodded at the same time.
"Cool, maybe I'll see you guys there later."
"Huh?" Ava looked at him confused.
"Yeah, I was at the Dr this morning, they said I can start skating again. Still be awhile before I can join the team but I can go out alone with the trainers and such." his grin was infectious. I couldn't help but feel extremely happy for this man I had just met 2 minutes ago.
"Why didn't you tell me he was gorgeous?" I laughed as me and Ava climbed into her car 10 minutes later to head to the arena. She laughed.
"I knew you'd think he was, but I figured you'd be more nervous to meet him if I told you."
"You're right." I nodded as I settled in for the ride. We talked the whole way there and then my nerves began to get the best of me as the arena came into view.
"You'll do fine, Jaz. Be yourself and they will have no choice but to love you." she said as she patted my hand when we got to the office where I would be doing my interview.
"Text me when you're done and I'll come show you around. Practice should still be going on when you're done." I nodded and sat down to wait for them to call me in as Ava walked away to find her camera equipment.
