(Max's POV)

       Max woke up to the infuriating sound of her stupid mother fucking alarm clock. She sat up in her bed and let out an agitated yell, slamming her fist onto the bed in frustration. A lightning bolt shot out of midair and struck the alarm clock, exploding it. Well shit, she thought.

To any other person, it would have been scary, but to Max, it was just another thing that she had to figure out how to hide. Max looked at the charred spot on her nightstand where her alarm clock had one been. She wondered how she was going to cover that up without drawing any attention to what really happened.

          Max thought back to her dream. Well, it wasn't exactly a dream. It was a memory. She thought of what happens in the room with the door to the outside world. Brenner has told her that he wanted her to meet someone, but really, he wanted her dead.  Once they were in the odd room, he took her to a room with no windows, and no way to escape.

          I remembered it perfectly. One the door had closed in the windowless room, Brenner picked me up, and tied me down on the table. Then he left. There were only two other people in the room, a guard, and a man with a gun. He held his gut up to my head, and I started to cry. Our eyes locked, then he turned around and shot the guard. He untied me, opened the door, and told me to run as fast and as far as I possibly could. And I did.

          That's how I ended up here. A gated community in Malibu, California, seven years later. Just then, my stepbrother, Billy, came in. "Max, what the hell just happened!!" Billy asked. He looked at the charred remains of my alarm clock. "Did you do that?!" He snapped.

I looked at the window. "Hey! I'm talking to you!!" He shouted. "I think I knew that already," I said. "Did you do that?!" He asked again. "You'll be the next target if you don't learn some respect," I say threateningly. Of course, he doesn't listen. "Neil!! Susan!! Get in here now!!" Billy yells. Well shit...

          Neil and Susan were entering my room within seconds. "This better be important." Neil hissed. "I think Maxine has powers," the way Billy said my full name made me mad, madder than I already was. I felt the lighting coursing through my veins. That was not a good sign.

          It took all of my energy to stop myself from electrocuting everything in sight. "Is that so.." Neil said smirking. "Try me," I challenged. I stole a quick glance at the mirror. I looked badass. I looked my stepdad square in the eyes. I wasn't afraid of him any more.

                                        * * * *

My first impression of Hawkins Indiana: hell; nightmare; terrifying memories that were once locked away, filled my head once more.

We got to the new house and unpacked. The whole time, there was a pit in my stomach. The growing fear of her past catching up to her. She didn't know it, but the Hawkins lab had given them the house, and forced them to move, so they could resume experiments on subject 010.
