"You're late Ms. Davidson.", Mrs. Malone scolded.
"I am so sorry mam, I got caught in some traffic, It won't happen again.", I said.
"It better not, you may go now.", she swatted me away.
I rushed out of her office and smacked right into Abby. Her coffee spilled all over my papers. "Shit!", I blurted.
"Oh my god, Ava I am so sorry.", she said, helping me pick up my papers.
I just started working at Dazzling Magazine. It was 3rd month here and I still considered myself a newbie. I've had nothing but bad luck since I started my job here.
"It's alright Abby, I'll just grab some more.", I said.I always make double copies of everything. The same thing happened last week and the week before that. Abby always knocks into me and my a papers get covered in her French vanilla coffee. I walked over to my office.
I shared a office with Abby. It was pretty big actually and we were both really organized so we never had to worry about messes. "You'll never guess whose coming here tomorrow.", Abby said while biting her lip.
"Who?", I asked.
"Brendan Taylor.", she squealed.
I tuned my chair around to face her.
"Who?""You don't know who Brendan Taylor is?", she snapped.
"No, I have no idea who that is."
Abby pulled out her iPhone and a man popped up on the screen. He was really handsome. Deep blue greenish eyes. Nice chocolate colored hair. His smile was gorgeous... He was gorgeous.
"He's hot.", I chuckled.
"Duh!!! He's smoking fucking hot.", Abby sang.
I turned back to my desk and began typing on my computer. Brendan Taylor huh, well I guess I'll just have to wait to meet this guy. The day went by pretty slow but when it was over I was relieved. I was so exhausted I wanted to just go home and shower and fall asleep.
"Hey Ava, wanna join us for a drink?", Abby said. Kaelin, Michael, and Jeff were with her.
"Nah I'm okay guys maybe next time
I'm really bummed.", I said yawning into my hand."Okay, see ya tomorrow.", Jeff said.
I unlocked my apartment door and shifted over to the bathroom.
I slipped out of my clothes and turned the shower on. The water felt so nice on my skin, this was just what I needed."Hello.", said a voice.
"Rebecca?".
I quickly shut the shower off and grabbed a towel. "Rebecca, what the hell are you doing here?", I snapped.
"I came here to see my little sister of course.", she squealed holding up a bottle of wine.
Rebecca was my older sister, but we were only 1 year apart. She lived in Connecticut where the rest of my family was.
"What did dad do this time?", I asked adjusting my towel. My sister stared at me and bursted right into tears. "He won't stop drinking Ava.", she cried.
"Give me a second." I ran over to my closet and slipped some clothes on.
I ran back over to the living room and sat Rebecca next to me on the couch.
"He started drinking again?", I frowned.Rebecca wasn't the only sibling that I had. I had another sister and two brothers. Sarah, Mathew and Collin. My brother Collin was the oldest, he past away last year in a explosion down in Afghanistan. He served the army for 2 years. My brother was such a amazing guy, he was always there for our family and he was my parents first child.
Sadly he was taken from us too soon. He was only 25. Rebecca laid her head on my lap and bawled real hard. I felt tears coming down my face as well. My dad loved my brother, both my parents did and so did I. Everyone looked up to him, he was such a role model for my little brother Mathew. My dad was so hurt and angry the only thing he knew was to drink, and he didn't stop.
"Shh shh, it's going to be alright, I'm here.", I said softly while rubbing my sisters back.
Rebecca fell asleep on me and I quietly and steadily got up from the couch and grabbed a pillow and blanket for her. I took the bottle of wine and placed it on the counter. I pulled the blanket over Rebecca and kissed her gently on the forehead.
"Good night big sister, I love you.", I whispered.
