I switched on the TV and the news automatically flashed onto the screen, lighting up the dim lit room. My dad walked in, mug of tea in hand, and he sat down on the battered leather sofa next to me. He shook his head and clicked his tongue against his teeth as the most recent news story appeared.

"Another storm of events has shook the earth, this time in Florida" Said the sleek looking reporter on the screen "Thunder and lightning has hit all over the United States of America and has even killed two people, Amelia Gerrard was hit by a falling tree whilst in her car and Francis Harrold was struck by lightning earlier this week." The screen was filled with images and videos captured by people's phones. Lightning flashed through the dark skies and thunder grumbled hungrily. The sky was bursting with white light, slashing the sky with lightning. The reporter carried on talking about the recent freak weather as my dad looked intensely at the screen.

"To much technology, that's what's doing this" he stated, wagging his finger at the TV. "It's ridiculous, they've got all this stuff yet they can't find out the cause of it? All you need is common sense! It's the technology that's causing it!" I rolled my eyes at him

"At least its not another terrorist attack or murder or something" I said "We cant help this, its not in our control. I'd rather hear this than another nutter's on the loose"

"True" he agreed as a scientist came onto the screen.

"We had a minor tremor in Spain a couple of months ago, which hadn't really concerned us in the slightest as it only affected a couple of small villages in the East. However, horrific storms in Wales have been moving across England, causing treacherous rain, high tides and even problems within the sea. We've even witnessed ourselves what we can only describe as small tsunamis. Waves that are to big to be waves yet to small to be tsunamis. There have occasionally been waves so big they have come onto harbours and land, flooding the surrounding villages. Strong winds have also been occurring all over France and have even knocked down buildings in some areas. Now the lightning that happened this week in Florida is the last straw. We have recorded the data for all the freak weather changes we've had recently and will be looking into it further to see whether we can predict what's to come. However, we can almost certainly say that we are looking at freak weather on a global scale, so who knows what will be next"

I snorted slightly "Weather, whether, see what he did there?" My dad looked at me, a face which read anything but amusement. I zipped my lips as we turned back to the see the reporter back on the screen and moving onto the next topic of the night

"Mr Wilkes says it's global warming" I stated

"Ay?"

"Global warming" I repeated bluntly

"Could be I suppose"

"Wait a sec, you agree with me? I thought you said you didn't believe in global warming"

"I don't know" My dad said "I don't know whether these sudden burst of events are due to global warming or whether its something a bit more complicated" I chuckled again

"Whether..." He rolled his eyes at me but smiled

"I'm glad you find yourself funny 'cause I don't" A ping from the kitchen made my dad stand up "Come on, dinners ready"

"Ooh what are we having?" I piped as I swung my legs onto the sofa and flung my arm above my head.

"Spag Bol" he turned around and flashed a grin before disappearing into the kitchen.
