(Katt's P.O.V.)
Eugene's disappearance has suddenly thrust the whole castle into a new normal.
There were no more weekly games of hide and seek.
No more laughter from his teasing Rapunzel playfully.
No more engaging stories by the fire, all the adventures he had in his thieving days.
All of this was replaced with a lull. A quiet, dull, nothing. I hadn't known him as long as everyone else but even I felt a pang of sadness in his absence.
Rapunzel and I were both cursed with more frequent nightmares. It was hard telling which ones were as a result of the tragedy or if they were a sign of the enemy drawing closer. I end up practically moving into her room, we became the only place for the other to find solace.
We knew we needed to keep an eye on the task at hand; we were targeted and we've had one attack. But it's tricky when your enemy hasn't showed itself in a physical form yet. It's tricky when the entire kingdom is in mourning.
The King warns us that this is most likely why hey took Eugene first and not Rapunzel; to weaken their main target and make her easier to take. But none of us knew for sure.
This uncertainty had become our new normal.
