"Tell me a Story"

One day, while sitting in the study waiting for our next meeting with the King and Queen to begin, I ask Rapunzel if she'd tell me a story. It was more for her sake than mine, she looked as if she was slipping into a fog again and I wanted to distract her.

"What kind of story?" she asks. She's propped her head up on her hands, looking at her feet, She doesn't look up as she asks me.

"Whatever you want. What's on your mind?"I reply.

"My hair. Did I ever tell you the full story?"

"No. It never came up after that day you showed me the mural, and I didn't want to pry."

"Well, I could tell you now, if you want."

"Are you sure?"

"It'd probably be really relevant right now, to be honest."

I wasn't sure what she meant, but I decided to trust her on it. "Yeah, sure. I'd love to hear all about it"

She starts. "Well, it started a very long time ago. A drop of sun fell from the sky, a magic drop. It grew a flower, and magic one. It could heal anything; illness, injury, it could even bring people back from the dead..." She continues, and tells the story of how her mom was sick while pregnant with her, and the flower was the only cure.

"The guards finally found it, and brought it to my father. He made a medicine out of it, and soon after I was born. The flower made my hair long and golden, and magical. It could heal anything, just like the flower."

"Wait," I interrupt, "So, how did you lose it?" I ask, I feel so stupid but it just slipped out.

"It got cut, it's another long story..." I can tell she doesn't want to go into details about it. I'm about to speak when she continues.

"The sun flowers also brought something dark with them, but we didn't know it until years after. A moonstone fell from the sky the same night, on the far side of an island close to home,"

"Crules..." I realize. She's talking about Crules. I've been told that their powers come from the moon."

"Yes, well, here we call it the Dark Kingdom. It's who we went to war with many years ago. But these rocks started to grow, right around the flower. Scary, sharp, full of magic. They glowed this blue color. The sun's magic and the moon's magic;  we learned of this connection between the two. And the connection was in me. But that's over. Or at least I thought it was..."

We sit in silence for a moment. A lot of things start to make sense, the dreams, how Rapunzel and I have been connected. I'm from the light kingdom. Corona is, or was, a home to the same magic I was born from.

I'm about to speak when Arianna and Frederic walk in. The meeting starts, and I'm starting to feel more prepared than ever. Whatever we're about to face, I'll be ready.
