Dancing with Shadows
Chapter 30
Emma's heart began to race as she looked at Nick, waiting for his answer. "Y-you saw her? D-did she t-tell you anything?" she stammered, her voice trembling with urgency.
Nick's expression darkened as he nodded. "Yes, I saw her. She approached me while I was jogging," he explained, his frown deepening. "She gave me a message to pass on to you. She said not to use the vial—that it was no longer safe. I didn't understand what she meant at the time, but she was clearly panicked. It had to be something serious."
"N-no longer s-safe?" Emma repeated, her eyes widening in fear. She turned to Logan, her panic rising. "D-do you think something happened?" She reached for his hand, gripping it tightly.
Logan squeezed her hand, trying to soothe her. "We'll figure it out, Emma. Just breathe."
Emma's father stepped forward, concern etched across his face. "Did she say why it's not safe for Emma?"
Nick shook his head, his expression grim. "I don't think she meant just Emma. She was acting like the world was falling apart—"
Before he could finish, a violent tremor shook the house, sending Emma stumbling into Logan's arms. The walls rattled, and the ground beneath them seemed to lurch.
"What the hell is going on?!" Matthew shouted, his voice laced with panic. A loud siren blared, echoing through the neighbourhood, adding to the chaos.
Emma's father rushed to turn on the television, hoping for answers. The screen flickered to life, showing a news anchor who was visibly trying to maintain her composure.
"We urge everyone to stay calm," the anchor said, though her voice wavered. "The tremor was caused by some sort of water-like matter. We're still gathering information—"
But as she glanced up at the camera, the fear in her eyes was unmistakable. Her hand flew to her ear, listening intently as more information came through. She nodded every few seconds, her expression growing more alarmed.
"Our news crew has a visual. What we are about to show you may be disturbing." The screen cut to live footage of the city. Buildings lay in ruins, cars were overturned, and people were fleeing in all directions. The camera zoomed in on a massive portal that had opened in the middle of the chaos, its surface rippling like water.
Emma's breath caught in her throat. The portal was larger than any she had ever seen before, its edges shimmering ominously.
"That portal—why? What is going on? Why is it there?" Logan muttered, releasing Emma's hand as he sank onto the couch, staring at the screen in disbelief. Emma joined him, her mind reeling.
The camera suddenly zoomed in on the portal, capturing figures emerging from the liquid-like substance. "It seems like people are coming out of the portal!" the on-site reporter shouted, her voice barely audible over the din of the disaster.
The screen abruptly switched back to the main news station, where the anchor's expression had shifted to one of pure terror. "We've just received intel that this phenomenon is happening all over the world," she reported, her voice shaking. "Sources say—"
Emma's mind began to drift as the reporter's voice faded into the background. Her thoughts raced, overwhelmed by the implications. What is going on? Are those people from the werewolf world? Or are there other dimensions we don't know about?
Emma was jolted back to reality when she heard her name being called. "-Ma. Emma!"
"Yes?" She blinked, trying to shake off the daze.
