“Harry!” He heard Anna yell from the office
“Yeah?” He yelled back
“Could you help me get the girls into bed?” She yelled again
Harry groaned and put his laptop on the coffee table before walking towards the office. He found Anna browsing through a bunch of papers that were scattered on the desk.
“I’m a little busy right now…Can’t you take care of them tonight?” He asked
“You’re a little busy?” She challenged “I’m up to my neck in papers right now…I’m trying to make this budget work…I have to sign about a dozen production orders and I still have to email about 10 different people…So…Could you please, for the love of God take care of the girls right now? It’s getting a little late and they have to be up early for school tomorrow”
“Anna…Seriously, you need to stop bringing your entire work home ok? What do you even do at the office if you have this much to do when you come home?” Asked Harry sounding annoyed
Anna flashed him an angry look before putting the papers she was holding on her desk and marking one of the pages with an asterisk, probably so she could remember which paper she was reading when she came back later.
“You know what? I’m going to do that myself” She said angrily
“No… Just answer me…Why do you bring that much work home?” Challenged Harry still sounding annoyed
“We have a lot to go through before we open the new store…But I really don’t know why I bother telling you this if I’m just wasting my time…I’ve already told you this, remember?” She told him when she crossed paths with him in the doorway
Crap! That’s right…She already told me that about a month ago
“Look…fine…I’ll put the girls into bed” Said Harry trying to sound apologetic
“I’ll do it… I need a break anyway” said Anna going to the T.V room to find the girls
“Babies…Time for bed” She announced putting on a smile on her face
“Noo, mommy please!” Complained Olivia, their oldest daughter
“I don’t want to sleep” Said Sophie, their three year old girl
“Oh but we have to” Said Harry taking Olivia in his arms and lifting her from the couch where she and Sophie were watching cartoons “Because…we have to go to school tomorrow baby”
“No daddy, I want to stay watching T.V” Whimpered Olivia
“Come on Soph…Would you like daddy to sing you to sleep?” Asked Anna giving Sophie a hopeful smile while she picked up the girl in her arms and supported her against her hips
Sophie smiled and cheered in excitement
“Yaaaay daddy!”
“Come on then” Said Harry smiling broadly when he saw his daughter’s excitement
They walked upstairs to the girl’s bedroom and put them to bed. Harry sat next to Olivia with his legs stretched and his back against the headboard while she put one arm and one leg around his legs and rested her head in her pillow
“Are you comfortable Oli?” Asked Harry while he ran a hand through his four year old’s hair and she nodded
Anna on the other hand, made herself comfortable next to Sophie who cuddled as close as she could to her mom, like she did every night while Anna rubbed her back to make her fall asleep faster.
