" Hey, hey, calm down."
A guy reached out and grabbed my wrist to steady me. I looked up and I stopped screaming just long enough to notice. * Scream* He had huge wings on his back, and he was really handsome.
" I said calm down. Shut up. What's your problem girl?"
He let go of me and started to walk away." Wait! I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scream I just... I'm new and when I saw your...I was just surprised. Please wait." He stopped and turned around and looked at me. His eyes were a deep sparkly blue.
" What's your name new girl?"
" Ally. What's your's?"
" John. What class do you have next. If you don't get there soon you're going to be late."
" I have Calculus with..." I pulled my schedule out of my bag. " Uh...Dr. Weston."
" Great I have that class too. Follow me."
He took off, and I raced to catch up. As we were going through the hallway I saw many different...people. There were people with scales, feathers, and hooves. Then, there were people that looked just like me and John, (without the wings). " Uh John?" He turned and looked at me.
" Yea, what?"
" What kind of school is this?" He stopped and looked at me surprised.
" What do you mean what kind of school is this. This is Wesley Academy."
" Okay. I get that, but what is Wesley Academy." He looked at me kind of uncomfortably, but kept walking.
" Well, It is a school for special people like us. Students that are special."
" Then why am I here? I'm not special at all. I can't do anything out of the ordinary and I don't have wings!" He looked at me over his shoulder confused and angry.
" I can't tell you why you're here. Only that there must be something special about you or you wouldn't be here. That is just how it goes. And just so you know having wings isn't the only thing that can make you special."
He opened the door and we stepped inside as the bell went off. I looked around and thankfully none of those Goth girls were in here, but there was quite a few other people.
"Hey Keenan. Hey Michael."
John walked over to a group of other boys, all were amazingly gorgeous. What is up with all these hot boys? I thought about setting with them, but the teacher walked in and started talking, there were no open desks, and John didn't introduce me. So I took an empty desk towards the back and tried to blend in. It didn't work.
" Hey you with the black hair. What's your name? I'm Kaylee. I'm a shifter. What are you? I haven't seen you here before. What's your gift? Hey you with the black hair. I'm talkin' to you."
I turned around looking for who she might be talking to, and then I realized she was talking to me. Oh crap. I guess I should have figured that out early seeing as I am the only girl here with black hair. Which I have never liked because people look at me strangely because it clashes so severely with my husky blue eyes. " Um.. I'm Ally. I am just me. I don't have a gift." She looked at me startled and scooted closer.
" Seriously what's your gift? I really want to..."
" Ms. McClain. You are wanted in the office."
Dr. Weston looked at me and set a pass on his desk." Yes sir, Dr. Weston." I stood up and grab my bag.
" Hey, Ally. I'll see you at lunch. We set at the table closest to the windows. Can't miss it."
She turned and I left the classroom. Wow, she was friendly. I wonder why I'm going to the office. Hmm... I retraced my steps and found the office. As I was walking in the mean women with the pink glasses looked at me.
" Ah, Ms. McClain. I see you made it here in a timely matter. Good. Principal Paxton will see you now. Be sure to be polite."
She ushered towards a door to the left. I opened the door and entered a beautiful office with plush chairs and a pretty cherry desk. Behind the desk there was a tall regal looking women. She turned away from her computer and smiled at me.
" Good to see you Ally. Welcome to Wesley Academy. I trust you found your classes to your liking?"
" Yes of course Ms. Paxton, but I was wondering. Umm... Why am I here. John told me this was a school for special students, but I'm not special. I don't have a gift." She looks at me with a sincere smile.
" You're gift has yet to fully pronounce itself to you, but there are those of us that recognize it within you. Your potential is great, and here at Wesley Academy we will help you reach your full potential. That is why this school is here. We help students like yourself reach their full potential."
" Okay, what is my gift?" She frowned at me disapprovingly.
" You have many gifts. Your most obvious one is your ability to read people. See what they feel and think and need. This is a very rare skill, and it would be to your advantage to keep this to yourself, but I won't stop you from telling others if you feel so inclined. Another gift you have is your ability to learn new things, and cope with them. That is why moving to different schools is not a problem for you. You " go with the flow" per say. Your last gift is more difficult to explain. It involves how you interact with others. We, the faculty at Wesley Academy, have yet to fully analyze this gift, so we will learn about it as you do, with time."
"...Alright. I sort of understand, but how am I supposed to develop my gifts?"
" You will do that in your Skills Development classes which you will have every afternoon Monday through Saturday. Your academic classes will be in the morning every other day Monday through Friday. If you have anymore questions please see Mrs. Heartly. Have a good day Ally."
She turned back to her computer and I left. This is so confusing. I really just want some time to think. I walked to Mrs. Heartly's desk. She was fumbling through her draws, and she spoke to me without looking up
" Ms. McClain forth block is almost over so just wait here until the bell rings and you are dismissed to go to free period."
" Yes, ma'am. Thank you Mrs. Heartly. By the way Mrs. Heartly, your pen is behind your ear." The bell sounded and I walked out the door. I turned and saw her reach up and grab her pen. She frowned slightly but then went about her business. I laughed to myself as I walked away, then I stopped. Oh great. Now it's time for lunch.
