Mother always said men like him could never love little girls like us.

Someone as elegant and swift, almost like a swan could never fathom love for anybody other than himself or the girls who suited his tux well. She still couldn't believe I was invited to some place as wonderful as this.

You could just guess her surprise when she saw the gold envelope laying on her porch that morning. She had read the invitation while I was at school and thought it was mistaken for our neighbor who's mail always ended up at our house.

But there it was. Our sir name. At the top of the page.

My mother cried for days. I'm pretty sure she thought her daughter was going to be slaughtered at a party full of rich people and people from different villages...or become a slave to one of those monsters.

I knew she still thought that as she hugged me tightly and watched me depart for the limousine that was filled with kids from my village.

I thought I was going to die too.

Four other girls and two boys from my village were sat quietly and comfortably when I entered. The driver had helped me into the van, picking up the remaining pieces of my gown that flowed out of the limo and sat it by my form. He gave me a curt nod and closed the door.

I had recognized these kids from around school. They were all popular, immensely attractive, and extremely talented in different shapes and forms. They all seemed to stare at me and my big gown when I relaxed in the seat.

What can I say? My mother always said 'go big or go home'  plus, she was a seamstress.

"Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen. In the compartment right beside you there are seven masks, one for each of you," A loud voice spoke through the speakerphone on top of the smooth ceiling, "four black masks for the girls and two silver for the boys."

The voice was gone just like that as the first girl reached in the compartment and handed us all our masks. As she did, I took my time to scan all of everybody's outfits.

One blue gown, three purple, and my bright red one with black masks. The boys were dressed in two suits, one grey and one black with silver masks placed in the center of their laps.
