They were a few blocks away before any problems occurred. "Wait… what specifics do we need, Josh and Emily? I don't think we settled that." Nikel said, pausing in his walk.
“Well, with the whole perishable food thing, I’m in the mood for tacos. So food, obviously.” Emily began. “Then I’d guess water, and other things to drink. Candles, flashlights, things for light. There’s probably more, I’m just forgetting it.”
“Yeah, we need quite a bit for tacos my dude. Plus we’ll also need batteries for the flashlights, wood for fire, matches as well, there was a lot you’re missing. We should have put a list together.” Josh said looking at the two.
“It was a quick list, alright? I just group everything together, tacos are food, so lots of food, drinks, basically the necessities. Though batteries did kinda blank my mind.” Emily admitted.
"Well, I guess I should clarify a few things. One, I was planning on the hunting store on being the nexus of the sky bridge chain, with delta being our base, because of the wood stocks and an port quality wood/metalworking shop on-site. Two, there should be some stuff left in the restaurants up the street about fifteen? Blocks. Three, I believe that the deck store has solar panels, which can fix our light problem indefinitely." Nikel said pointing in the direction of each building as he said them.
“Guys, we might want to continue moving,” Emily warned, grabbing the sting of the bow. There was a zombie, yet it didn’t seem to notice them yet. “I prefer not to die.” She mumbled.
“Yeah, I wouldn’t like to die in this fucking place either. So, come on.” Josh said starting to move his rifle raised a bit.
Each person, readied their weapon of choice, and silently away, watching the undead begin with a stare. It moved away, slowly, but surely. “So, what first?” Emily mumbled to the others.
“I’d say we get the food first.” Josh whispered back.
"Okay then. Follow me to the restaurants." Nikel said, making his way up the street.
“Copy that.” Josh followed.
“May I ask what’s the name of them?” Emily inquired. “Is it like a restaurant restaurant or some local one? Just curious over here.”
"Pretty popular local ones, one is named Four Corners, the other is North Point Bar, Grill, and Casino. I believe they should have ingredient info on their menus." Nikel said, continuing up the street.
“We’re stealing a menu then. I don’t want to waste time looking for what my body decides to stand, and you guys are fine with any food.” She replied.
It was silent the rest of the way. They dodged a few zombies, shot a few, but mostly dodged. It was a long walk, and the sun slowly rose higher and higher as the trek continued. They would spot a few fires burning, but from what it looked like, it wouldn’t spread. If it could, it would’ve already. The only living thing they saw was each other; No animals, no people, nothing.
"I wonder how many people survived from my class? When we heard of the virus making its way here, we made survival plans using this entire town. You know the sky bridges? Well, we were supposed to meet up sometime today at the school. I wonder how many people will have made it." Nikel said, as they made their way inside North Point.
“Honestly,” Emily shrugged. “Last thing I heard, Michigan was still runnin’. That’s the state I’m from by the way. Not sure how my friends are. I can see them doing something fatal though. I swear to the gods above, they could and would do some stupid shit.”
“Sounds like me and my friends if I’m honest.” Josh said, looking at Emily.
“As long as you don’t end up killing yourself, I’m not stopping you.” Was her only response. “I dealt with it enough growing up, I know it’s better to watch the chaos then join.”
