Rubellus awoke in a dark room, with no windows or entrances in sight. Wildbird and Wickah lay next to him, with prominent red marks on their heads. A monster stood in front of him with a relaxed expression, which infuriated the Nature king.
"What do you want? You got what you wanted!" the mushroom bellowed. The monster stayed silent, analyzing him with no movement. The monster was Frosilika, one of the water kingdom leaders. She studied him for a couple more seconds before speaking.
"You have a choice to make," she whispered. Rubellus sighed, slumping to the ground in defeat. His wound still stung horribly, and made every living minute worse.
"Kill me..." he muttered, causing a smile to appear on the fish monster's face. She threw a stone on the floor, awakening Wickah and Wildbird. They both stared somberly at their ruler and then at themselves.
"Not until you give us exactly what we want. Let's play a little game, Rubellus," she said. The prisoner rose suddenly toward her, yanking his chains violently in the process.
"Where is that WEASEL!?" he roared, lunging toward Frosilika angrily. His many eyes all glared at her with the utmost abhorrence.
"This isn't like you, Rubellus. Questioning things that are indeed so obvious," she smirked. He broke one of his chains, the fungi around the metal ripping off of his bare skin. The fungus tackled Frosilika, grappling her to the ground in a burst of magical energy.
"WHERE IS THAT FIEND BASTARD!? WHERE IS SCRYB!?"
"He...he...," she gasped, all of her air being strangled from her. Rubellus loosened his grip to let her speak. "He thought this matter to be below him."
"That narcissistic demon thinks that the death of a king is below him, yes? Well if you don't want to die, go get him and tell him that I refuse to die without speaking to him. That is my final wish."
"Frosilika, what's going on? I told you brute strength was all you needed," called Korzorg, her brother and prince to the water kingdom throne.
"Tell him everything is fine-," whispered Rubellus.
"HELP ME!!! KORZORG, HELP ME!" she shrieked. Rubellus gritted his teeth in rage, tightening his grip and pushing down on her throat. She grinned at him as the hidden door swung open, revealing Korzorg with an electric taser. He swept the weapon at Rubellus, sending a painful shock through his entire body.
The remaining portion of Taiga's army slept in small tents, hidden by the leafy oak trees that guarded the forest. Treetopog slept next to Gurlik and a soldier elf, dreaming about the remaining happiness in his life. He suddenly felt another presence in his mind, as the image of his ruler appeared in the sky. Rubellus' head was distorted, and reeked with hopelessness and pain. The once sunny sky became rainy, then turned to hail, precipitating down onto the insectoid's body.
"Treetopog, you must help me," the image boomed, each word seeping into the monster's mind and into reality. "I rest in the water fortress, in the north dungeon. If you wish to remain loyal, you will rescue me without hesitation. Will you proceed?"
Treetopog nodded, staring at his idol with tears in his eyes. Rubellus was like a father to the creature and made the monster who he was piece by piece. It was his duty to serve.
"Tree, what's wrong?" asked Gurlik, responding to Treetopog's sleep talking. The insectoid woke as well, his head almost stretching outside the tent because of his immense size.
"I have to save Rubellus," explained Treetopog, rushing toward the tent exit. The elf stopped him, blocking his way out.
"I can't let you leave. You'll give away our position!" the elf yelled. Treetopog instantly was filled with a supernatural amount of hatred, tearing past the elf and into the night. Gurlik swore loudly, breaking the tent pole as he jolted backward and away from the corpse. He was torn apart by the bug, remains scattered around the shelter in a disgusting fashion.
