-Trigger Warning: Mentions of Assault*"Okay guys, no room for failure today. We have a mission to complete. I have briefed you guys enough today. If you aren't prepared now then you better be when we get there. I will not accept any mistakes, and neither will the boss. You will not go without punishment. Remember that. Stay safe. Be cautious. Do not fuck this up. Let's roll."
We had already geared up and I was just giving my team one last firm reminder as PB and Simon prepped the vans. It may not be our biggest mission, we have definitely gone head-first into more high-stakes situations, but Project Redirect is something that we can't risk letting go. Not only is Kirk a terrible leader for this company, but he has gone against us. Tried to take us out. This does not go without punishment.
I also had Digit do some more digging and apparently this guy has some pretty serious rape allegations against him. That shit hits close to home and I refuse to let anyone else get hurt by a monster like him. There were a few things that came up but they aren't something I need to concern the team about. Not unless they show up and try protecting Kirk, then I might have to tell Digit to click.
Click is a word I have established with Digit that no one else knows about. It's something I came up with and only shared with the boss and Digit. It is a precaution for if they come back for me or if I have to use him to get the others out of there.
Hopefully it won't come down to that, but it shouldn't.
Clicking my tongue against the roof of my mouth, I walked out to the van.
I really have to try and drop that habit...
Taking my place in the driver's seat, I look around at who I am with. Arden was in the passenger seat with his headphones in, relaxing and listening to music like he does before each mission. Adrian was splayed across all three seats directly behind us. Zack, Scythe, Sebastian, and Reo were all in the very back of the van, quietly chatting and double checking the equipment. Everyone else was scattered between the other vans. I don't fuckin' know what order but how should I, I'm not there.
I turned on the radio, flipping between the channels. All I found were some random popular songs that I couldn't care less about, ads, and a channel that was talking about church. Sighing, I opened up the glove box that was in front of Arden, him looking at me weirdly. I didn't even have to look, keeping my eyes on the road. I grabbed the only CD in there, which I deliberately placed there knowing the radios in these vans only had shit channels.
The front of the CD case said 'Reese's Mission Mix; NO TOUCHY'. I took it with me on every mission, in case of emergencies like this. The crime of bad music.
I placed the CD into the slot and it began to load. Immediately the car was filled with the sounds of my favorite mission music. They aren't even classified as 'hype' songs or upbeat ones. They are mostly songs that I love and that remind me of why I do what I do. The songs that help keep me grounded.
The first song was one that kinda hits home. But it's one of my favorites. It was Daddy by Badflower.
'Sweet little girl, with nothing to say
She hides in the smile
She wears on her face'
Adrian had slid the mask up his face, aligning it correctly so he could actually see. He knows all about my pre-mission playlist and normally just sat quietly as I drove.
Without realizing I began to sing along to the song playing softly through the speakers.
'She shakes at the sound
