"Ready for this, bud?"
Eddy shuffled his feet nervously as they walked to the truck. "I dunno... what if I look different? What if fans think I look ugly?"
Brett reached out to gently touch his shoulder. "Buddy, even if they think you're ugly, I'll always think you're handsome. Besides, you look great in everything."
Eddy snorted."Hey, you managed to even make the Viola King look good!"
Eddy let a little laugh escape his lips.Brett smiled. "And we can have bubble tea after."
Eddy jabbed him in the side. "That's just what you want!"
Brett batted his eyelids. "You know you want it too."
"Dude just-" Eddy laughed at the implied double meaning.Brett's tone rapidly changed from teasing to serious, a pretty typical behavior of him. "Plus, I'll be needing new glasses too... kind of wanting to try and see how different glasses would look. So we'll be doing this together."
Eddy smiled. Brett was not one naturally inclined to change, so he knew that he was doing it for him. "Aw, thank you. I appreciate it."
Brett gave him a quick hug. "No problem."Brett raced over to the truck. Eddy tried to beat him, but Brett made it first, jumping in the driver's side.
"Hey, I wanted to drive," Eddy whined."Dude, you're half blind," Brett joked. "Besides you drive so slow."
"So?" Eddy pointed to the little dent at the front. "At least I'm being safe," he jokingly retorted, alluding to Brett's high speeds and lack of caution.Brett snorted. "Keep it up and I'll make you ride in the backseat."
Eddy pouted. "Then make me."Brett jumped out of the seat, intent in his eyes. He grabbed Eddy by the wrists, trying to drag him towards the back. The two of them pulled back and forth in a humorous tug-of-war.
"Get... in there!" Brett grunted as he pulled him closer.
Eddy slammed his foot against the truck to pull himself away. "No!" he stubbornly refused.
Then Brett let go of one of his wrists, drawing out the threatening weapon.
"No... no," Eddy tried to wriggle free, but it was too late.
A deluge of tickles overwhelmed Eddy as Brett masterfully poked at Eddy's sides. Eddy hunched over, laughing hysterically. Brett tried to grab at his waist and drag him in, but Eddy took advantage of the moment, grabbing his shoulders and pushing him in.
"Ha! Beat ya!" Eddy laughed, jumping in the front.
"No fair!" Brett whined at how the tables had turned. Eddy jumped in the driver's seat and slammed the door, backing out of the garage.
"It feels like I'm being abducted or something," Brett giggled as Eddy drove.
Eddy laughed. "I mean, who wouldn't want to abduct you?" He turned around and gave a teasing smile. "Especially all those crazy fangirls who are obsessed with you."
As expected, Brett's face flushed with splotches of crimson. "Shut up," he laughed."Remember that one time that girl at the meet and greet said you were her boyfriend?" Eddy egged him on.
Brett simply mumbled gibberish.Eddy continued teasing. "It's honestly so cute hearing you respond to how fangirls act. Everyone thinks you're cool as a cucumber, but in reality you're flustered as a pickle."
Brett scrunched his face. "That last part makes no sense."
Eddy laughed. "That's the point."Soon they made it to the eye doctor's office. As Eddy put the truck to park, he couldn't help but feel nervous again.
"Hey, you alright?" Brett sensed his nervousness.
"Yeah just...."
"Look, worse case scenario you do look ugly, and worse case scenario a couple of fans do get snippy, you're still you. You're still an incredibly talented violinist and a wonderful person."Eddy gave a little chuckle. "I was not expecting that for an answer... but you're right I'll still be the same person. But you're the one who's talented and wonderful!"
Brett gave a little snort. "No you!"Eddy shook his head. "I said it first."
"No I did!" Brett retorted.Eddy plugged his ears. "I didn't hear it though."
"You little-" Brett tried to poke him in the side, but Eddy grabbed his wrists. "You little what?" Eddy grinned."Nnngggggghhhh," Brett was unable to think of a witty response. "Come on, let's go."
The two of them sat in the office, waiting together. "Eddy Chen," the doctor asked.
"Want me to go with you?" Brett asked. Eddy nodded in response.
After doing the necessary examinations, the doctor gave the diagnosis. "Alright, so you're near-sighted, so we'll be needing to give you the appropriate lens for that. What type of frame would you like?"
Eddy had thought through this decision for a while. "Um... square, with a light-colored wire frame."The doctor nodded. "And Brett said he needed stronger glasses. Would you like to do anything different with those?"
Brett nodded. "Yeah... could I do round with black frames this time?"
"Yeah," the doctor wrote it down. "Alright, I'll get you the glasses."
A few minutes later, she returned with the glasses. "So you can put them on in front of the mirror and see if you like them."Brett noticed that Eddy seemed a little hesitant, so he went first. He switched out his glasses, looking at himself in the mirror. "Hmm... iNtErEsTiNg!"
Eddy laughed, feeling a little bit of the tension go away. Then he put the glasses on himself. He walked up to the mirror, slightly nervous about how he would look. But at least Brett was there. And at least he could finally see things for once.
Honestly, he was surprised -- and in a good way. He actually looked nice in them.
Brett giggled. "You look kinda dorky. But in a cute and attractive way."
Eddy smiled. "At least I don't look awful. Just more like a nerdy musician."
"SO READY FOR BUBBLE TEA?!"
Eddy was unable to say anything for a moment, laughing at the suddenness of the question. "Yeah, let's do it!"As the two of them walked out together, Eddy felt a lot happier about himself. Brett was right, even if people thought he didn't look the greatest, he was still the same person.
He was Brett's friend, and that's all that mattered.
