Though it was middle of the night, Angel lie wide awake in her warm, soft bed, enveloped by the neon glow from the lamp atop her ceiling. Watching her husband sleep peacefully beside her, she hugged her fuzzy purple blanket close to her, and propped up an array of pillows, leaning against the wooden bedframe. A troubled, concerned look suddenly came across her face.
Something was bothering her.
She lifted up the sleeve of her warm, cotton nightshirt.
She started at the ugly bruises covering her body.
She looked at the hideous words, written in blood, cut deeply onto her delicate pink arm.
" I am perfect", it said. Just one simple phrase.
Tears filled her eyes, and suddenly she saw a warm, fuzzy, familiar teddy bear staring back at her. She smiled.
"Hey, I know you."
Reluctantly, the memories and events came flooding back, and she was transported back in time, to a different place, where she was a different person entirely, nothing more than a small, innocent child. She smiled at the memory.
