The days turned into weeks, weeks months, months years. And through it all, she, Hailey, Becky, and Sue Chan remained friends. Soon it was approaching Angel's thirteenth birthday. Her mom bothered and nagged her for weeks.
" What are you going to do for your thirteenth birthday, Angel?" she asked. "My little girl, finally a teenager!"
" I don't know Mom," she said. "Stop bothering me!"
Her mom sighed. "I know. I'll leave you alone."
When the day finally arrived, her mom shook her out of bed, and awoke her with a start.
" Surprise!!!" "Happy Birthday." " I made a cake for you."
Angel forced a smile.
" Thanks so much, mom. I appreciate it."
During the long car ride to the school, her mom bothered and nagged her.
" I'm so excited. My little girl, thirteen!" " Your friends are going to be so happy to wish you an amazing B-Day."
They drove up to the school, and Angel found her friends in the hallway.
" ANGEL!!!" they screamed. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!"
"Thank you!", she replied, sincerely. " I honestly thought you wouldn't remember."
Happily, they walked together in silence.

Reluctantly, Angel lifted her head up from the small, wooden desk, and turned to face her teacher.
" I have all of your test scores ready from last Friday's quiz. I can happily say almost all of you passed."
Angel smiled. She breathed a deep sigh of relief.
'Thank god," she thought.
Angel watched as her teacher passed out each and every individual paper, walking down all of the aisles. As she reached Angel's desk she stopped, hesitating. A look of discomfort and concern washed over her face.
"Angel", she said. "Your test paper."
She smiled, sweetly. " Thank you, Mrs. Mona."
She quickly flipped it over, anxious to see the result.
A big red, giant F lie waiting for her at the top of the paper.
Her smile vanished.
She had flunked a test. On her birthday.
Biting her lip, she tried desperately to hold back a wall of tears.
Suddenly, she smiled.
" This kinda looks like a face," she thought to herself. Laughing, she made the ugly grade into a pair of buck teeth, and drew a big, giant oval around it. She then drew long, stringy hair, and added eyes.
Softly, she chuckled.
" It kinda looks like me," she thought. 'Exactly like me."
Lazily, she lay her head down on her desk, and drifted off to sleep.
