Part 1: The Invasion
Chapter 1: The Trip
"Are we there yet," I groaned for the millionth time
"No, and complaining won't get us there any faster," she sighed, "if you hate car trips so much you shouldn't attend all these shooting contests".
"Umm, but you make me do them," I reminded her
"Oh right, true, but still, well you get the idea."
"Actually I don't," I pointedly made the most 'duh' face I could. I went back to playing peek-a-boo with my little sister.
KOA Kampgrounds- 15 miles, the sign said. "Finally," I commented. "Which Kabin are we staying in?"
"Uh, Kabin 2 I think," dad decided to pitch in (KOA spells cabins with a 'K', same with 'kampground.')
"Cool, you guys check in, and I'll make myself cozy, and don't forget to get me a map," I yelled as we pulled up the entrance way and I jumped out.
"Wow, I'm stupid," I muttered as I realized that the key was in the car, "oh well, I guess I'll just see if I can get on the roof.
As I was scrambling up on the drainage pipe the car pulled up.
"Get down from there," my mom yelled.
"I do this every time, don't you think that if I was going to fall I would have done so by now," I remarked. She glared at me.
Get him down from there honey," she convinced my dad.
"Haha, lets see if you can get up here."
"Fine, we'll lock the doors, and you can spend the night on the roof." The same old routine as any other time we stay at KOA. But this time it was a little different, I had got a lock picking set for my birthday. Now I know what you're thinking, 'who gets their child a lock picking set'. But basically it was me tricking my grandma into getting it for me (involving a last minute switch of products at the checkout stand.)
"Okay," I replied, as usual. My mom must have sensed the abnormal hint of haughtiness behind my tone, because she got this sly, 'we'll see who wins this one' look. I know what you're thinking, and the answer happens to be yes, my family is really, really messed up.
When I started to pick the backdoor lock, I noticed the inside chain lock was hooked. Crap, I wondered where my mom got this stuff from. Wait, I had a perfect idea.
"Haha, I win" I gloated to myself. What had happened was, I got on the roof, hung upside down form the drain pipe, and unlocked the window, then slid inside.
I got a note from my mom on the kitchen table saying, 'If you got in, it's probably around 11:30 (You know me so well mom), so unpack your stuff, dinners in the oven, and then go to bed.
I unpacked, setting my shotgun bag on the living room fireplace so I could grab it on my way to the contest in the morning. I ate (Steak and mac 'n' cheese), brushed my teeth, and then hit the sack.
