Rowan

The words that escaped my fathers lips hit me like a train.

"We found her."

I gave him a look, demanding for the truth. He didn't say anything; he only nodded in confirmation. Instantly, my jaw dropped to the ground in disbelief. I stayed staring at my father for minutes.

"How?" I asked after I recovered from the shock.

"Alpha Astraea claims that he's found her and she's with him," he explained. "I'm going to get her." My father walked around the desk and passed me in a rush.

"I'm going with you," I stated, stopping him in his tracks. He only turned his head as he addressed me.

"No."

"She's my sister!" I said defensively. "I never had a chance to meet her, and the two weeks we had together, I don't even remember them!"

My father angled his entire body towards me this time. He sighed in defeat, knowing that I was persistent on going whether he liked it or not. "Fine."

My eyes lit up at the one word but there was still a question itching to escape my lips. My father left the room and I followed suit. We both rushed to get to the car, not even thinking about packing anything.

As we rushed down the stairs I saw my mother going up them. She must've seen our facial expressions were all over the place because she grabbed my fathers arm, stopping him.

"What's wrong?" She asked, sensing the feeling of dread that both my father and I were feeling.

"I have an important meeting with Alpha Astraea," My father replied quickly. "I'm taking Rowan with me."

My mother nodded, believing my fathers lie. "How long will you be gone?"

"About two days," I pipped in.

She nodded again, turning her attention to me. She let go of my fathers arm and grabbed my hand and held it in hers, placing her other hand on top. "Please be safe," she pleaded, shifting her gaze back and forth between mine and my father's. I looked into her eyes and saw a swirl of many emotions. Hurt and worry, along with many other emotions swam in her forest green orbs. I would say that they were the same ones that I inherited, but I didn't. I had inherited my fathers sapphire blue eyes.

"We will," my father assured. He lent over and kissed my mother's forehead before landing a kiss on her lips. I scratched the back of my neck awkwardly. Seeing your parents kissing is pretty awkward sometimes. When they finished, my father turned to me and nodded. He started walking in the rest of the way down the stairs and I followed him. We went outside and climbed into the black SUV that we rarely used since we always went places in our wolf forms.

My father dug his hand into his pocket and took out a key. He stuck it into the key hole and turned it. The car roared to life. Without hesitation, he backed out of the spot where the car was parked and got onto the road.

"You aren't going to tell mom?" I asked my father, minutes into the drive.

"Not until I know for sure that it is her. I would hate to see your mother's hopes up, only to be crushed because of a stupid misidentification," my father said. He had a point. As much as I would have loved to fully believe that Alpha Astraea had found my sister who has been missing for seventeen years, I couldn't. Sure, I had faith that it could be her, but there was still a 'what if' echoing within my thoughts.

10 hours later

I rolled around in the bed I was in, not being able to sleep. I looked over at the digital clock that was sitting on the nightstand that was beside the bed. The clock read '3:57 am' in bold, red numbers and letters.
