“I have licked the fire and danced in the ashes of every bridge I ever burned. I fear no hell from you.”
-Nicole
The rain was peaceful. Even though the fire was spreading faster than anyone could anticipate, the rain was the only comfort that I was given. Even though another bomb exploded and shook the ground while I cradled my dead sister, the rain was there.
It was washing away the fire. It was a firm reminder that I need to be present in the present but my mind refused to budge as my sister's eyes no longer held the love they once had.
I couldn't feel the hands as they grabbed me and started dragging me. The only thing that triggered me back into the present was the body of my sister that was getting too far out of my reach.
“ Celeste! ” A cry tore itself from my throat as I tried to claw my way to her. My hands were digging in the mud but the hands carrying me were stronger.
“ Hortensia! I need you to listen to me! ” Strong hands grabbed my shoulder as my world came into focus. I saw my father in front of me, covered in blood and burns.
“ Daddy... ” My hands lingered near his almost burned cheek. He grabbed my hand and I saw tears in his eyes. My father never cries.
“ It's over darling. It's over my princess. All I need you to do right now is close your eyes. ” He said. “ And forget everything. ”
I looked around my father to see my mother somewhere behind. She always stops to help the ones in need.
“ Where is... Mom? ”
And his tears fell. I felt like my world collapsed. I never really got to thank my mom for all that she did and I never got to say sorry to her after the big fight we had yesterday.
My ears were ringing as my father kept saying things that I couldn't understand.
He whipped his head around and covered me with his body. He started firing shots at the creatures that came to ruin us.
I couldn't tell anymore. All I could do was stare. Stare at nothing and everything.
Now I realized why I was never trained with a weapon or why I never had a weapon at my disposal.
It is because they knew I was a weapon born for destruction. And weapons don't need other weapons.
You don't need a weapon when you were born one. And I think I pulled my trigger.
I saw my father cast some spell with the last bit of strength he had.
I still remember my mother's words when she warned my father about allying our forces with the other species. The more powerful species.
Never trust them for they are born to betray. Never trust vampires. Never trust anyone other than us. Blind trust destroys us all.
It did. It destroyed us.
My fingers went cold as did my mind. The rain was now hitting me like rocks. The water falling was turning into solid ice.
The mud around me turned bluish-white as the fire started dimming.
Ice is dangerous because anyone and everyone can freeze. And once they freeze, they are easier to break.
I looked at my father last time.
“ Destroy it. Destroy them all. ” He whispered and I did.
I let go of the bullet inside me.
A scream echoed in the chaos as everything turned silent and all around me was just ice. Hard, impenetrable ice.
And soon it came over me as I lay still, looking at the moon.
I hoped that I killed the fire bender that wrecked this havoc.
I hoped that I died when the ice covered me whole. A coffin made of ice for my coven because they won't have the luxury for the real one.
I think I died that day. Even if it means mentally.
I don't know how much time passed when I was under the numbness.
It could be minutes, hours, days, or forever.
But one day I just opened my eyes and saw that a man is standing above me, staring at me with his purple eyes and is offering me his hand.
You see, dying is easy.
But when you come back, that is the tricky part.
