After 5th period when the bell rung for lunch as I was packing up my stuff into my black leather messenger bag Malik asked "Do you want to sit with me and my friends at lunch?"
"Will Raven be there?"
"Yes."
"Then no."
"Why?" He said puzzled.
"She hates me." I said being heartbreakingly honest with him right now.
"No she doesn't. She just..."
"Hates me."
"What would make you say that?"
"I was talking to you then she glared at me before speaking. She had me embarrass myself in front of everyone. When she looks at me its with hatred and disgust. You might not see it, but I know where I'm not wanted."
"You are wanted. I want you there. So, what if Ray hates you. She won't do anything. She's just territorial over me. Like a wolf." I kept quiet. "Please?" He said giving me the puppy dog eyes and a pout.
I grinned and said "Fine, but only because you used puppy dog eyes."
He winked at me and said "Works every time." I rolled my eyes and we walked to lunch and when I took one step inside the cafeteria I turned around ready to dash out of there. Malik grabbed my waist and I felt heat rush to my cheeks and he said totally oblivious to that "Hey, everythings going to be fine."
"What if they ask about me being an orphan?"
"I'll take care of that. Everything is under control." My stomach felt like it was tying a knot as he said "Okay?" I looked around for a moment before calming down and regaining composure and saying "Okay." We got our lunch. He got a hamburger with fries and I got a salad with some fruit.
"You sure eat light."
"It's not that I'm just not that big a fan of hamburgers."
"You are the first person to ever say that to me."
"I'm not like most people."
"I've noticed." He whispered in my ear sending shivers down my spine and my heart rate skyrocketed.
We walked to his table and I sat down next to him and Raven said "What is she doing here? The orphan table is over there. Currently occupied by none and you could be the first."
"Ray be nice." Malik said. She just rolled her eyes. I wanted to slap her SO badly.
"How dare you?" I said calmly. "How dare you try to use the fact that I'm an orphan against me."
"Well, if the shoe fits."
"Thats not the shoe. Thats the whole outfit."
"Your just jealous by the fact that I have a family and you don't.... Oh, you're not gonna cry are you?" (She's All That movie reference!!!)
I simply got up went up to her slapped her leaving a big red hand print on the side of her face and said with a dangerous and almost deadly look in my eye "Does it look like I'm gonna cry?... I think the real question here is are you?" She got up and left while I just sat down shooting daggers at her, daring her to challenge me. Everyone at the table was staring at me. I said "What are you all staring at? She needed to be put in her place." I said taking a fork full of my salad. Malik grinned at me and I gladly returned it.
"I-I should go see if she's okay."
I smiled and said "Go." He left and I engaged in the random topic of the boy vs. girls debate. This should be fun.
Malik's POV
"Does it look like I'm gonna cry?... I think the real question is are you?" Amari said after slapping Raven. Amari had a dangerous look in her eye and Ray ran out. Note to self- NEVER get Amari mad. Amari sat down and we all stared at her slack jawed. Amari said casually as if nothing happened "What are you all staring at? She needed to be put in her place." Then ate some of her salad. I grinned at her and a smile played at the corner of her full soft lips. Her big brown eyes dancing with amusement. Her black hair giving her a flattering face frame. She was beautiful in every possible way.
"I-I should go make sure she's okay." I said fully aware and mentally smacking myself for stuttering. Also knowing full and well that I didn't want to leave, but if I stayed I might do something I know I shouldn't.
She smiled and said "Go." I left and Raven was in the hallway mumbling angrily to herself and pacing.
"Raven? Are you okay?"
"NO I AM NOT OKAY!!!!! That skinny little orphan just slapped me!!!!!!!"
"Well, maybe if you hadn't been so rude." I mumbled.
"Who's side are you on?! Me or that skinny little thing?!"
"Yours!" I screamed knowing good and well that that was a big lie.
"Then start acting like it!" I rolled my eyes and looked through the window into the cafeteria at Amari. She was laughing and talking. From the looks of it, they were having a debate. She was so full of life. Its sad that she's an orphan, her life must be so lonely.
