Harper was right. The outside was completely different from back in the community. The three of them watched the sun rise and sat against an over turned car. They had made it over the hill and both of them took turns while they slept and kept watch.

All of them were awake now, the light so blindingly unbeautiful as the sun rose. The community's dome blinded out how bad the world really was out there.

"So what's the plan?" Jerome looked over at the girls to the side of him.

"There's a shelter a ways out, it's the one Harper came from." Addilyn looked over at Jerome.

"No. We can't go back there." Harper injects clearly after Addilyn. The two of them look over at her confused.

"So then what's the plan?" Addilyn asked.

It was obvious there was no plan. Harper stood up and dusted herself off. "There's got to be a safe place where we can be ourselves." She says as she starts walking away from the two of them towards the faint mountain range ahead. It mustve been 100 miles out or more.

"Can we trust her?" Jerome looks at Addilyn and Addilyn looks at Harper.

"She has a point... haven't you always wondered if it was just California?" Addilyn gets up and begins to follow Harper, but not before she lends a hand to Jerome, "I trust her. And you trust me. Isn't that enough?"

Jerome rolls his eyes and grabs her hand as she pulls him to his feet. "You always have the worst ideas that turn out the best." He laughs and nudges her. They both continue to follow after Harper as she leads 20 feet in front of them.

The wind outside continued to push the cheap loose material against Addilyn's skin. She could feel the sand coming with the wind too. They probably had about 20 miles before they needed to rest. The community was far in the rear view, but the scavengers could still go out this far to of course scavenge and retrieve supplies. There were many foundations of homes, but no supplies, no food or wood from the shell of the broken homes. If there was wood it was too rotted to be used in the community. The old neighborhood was at the very least an abandoned skeleton of the past.

The three of them pushed on. The sky began to shift in colors, colors Addilyn forgot about. It was like the dome blinded her right to see, like it shifted the ways of reality from those on the inside to hide itself from those on the outside.

"How's it going. How do you feel?" Harper waited for her to catch up so she could talk to her. Jerome trailed ahead.

"I'm feeling slightly better than yesterday... I'm just exhausted." She smiled, knowingly that Harper couldn't see it.

"We'll find a place to rest, I know where to go, somewhere the scavengers aren't allowed in to, but it's safe, I know the people." She said, rubbing Addilyn's back. She could feel it, the moment of affection, ensuring her safety. Harper smiled, in return, she couldn't see Addilyn's face, but she knew she sounded happy to be out.

Addilyn continued on with Harper side by side, she was a bit scared to say the least. What people would be there? What people was Harper talking about. Why weren't the scavengers allowed inside? So many obnoxious questions Addilyn always had.
