LEN
Adyen and I were resting by the kitchen island as we watched Leigh take out mugs as her espresso machine had a seizure on the kitchen counter. I smiled when she went over to unplug it, remembering her and Georgiou arguing over how old the damn thing was. Leigh wasn't a hoarder or anything, but she had attachments to her things and found a hard time letting any of them go.
"How much?" she asked from her position standing at the counter. Adyen and I both looked over to find her holding both cups under the taps of the espresso machine. Most of the snow had melted off, and winter was coming to a proper end, but it was still chill enough for hot drinks.
"Just half the mug," I said before turning to look at Adyen.
"Full," he said, running his fingers through his curls. Leigh nodded, doing as she was told before bringing over both mugs to the kitchen island. She grabbed a cup for herself too, and soon we were all sitting on high stools around the off-white marble island.
"So," she started, dropping her cup before looking from me to Adyen. "What's this thing you wanted to talk about?" she asked, narrowing her eyes at the both of us.
We both started fidgeting, letting our eyes fall so that we didn't look her in the eye. Adyen had said talking to Leigh would be fine, and I had comforted him by repeating those words back to him, but now here we were, both quiet like school children that had to own up to doing something bad.
"Should I be worried?" Leigh asked, making me look up and lock eyes with her. She raised one of her full brows at me, twisting her lips that were bright with red lipstick.
"No." I shook my head, and Adyen did the same.
"It's just a bit difficult to figure out where to start, that's all," Adyen explained. I'm sure his heart was racing—also his mind. It was a lot to explain, and I was sure he was beyond nervous.
"Remember that wolf that used to give Georgiou a lot of shit?" I asked, and Leigh's brow rose even higher.
"The young alpha?" she asked, and I nodded. "I haven't seen him or his pack in a long time." She paused, taking a sip of her expresso. "Good riddance," she muttered against the ceramic cup. Her words didn't make Adyen feel any better. I felt him grab my free hand under the kitchen island, and I gave it a squeeze before looking back at Leigh.
