(Tahoi's POV)
What is that crazy girl doing now?!
I watch as she dives into the water but turns around and raises her dragon head above the surface.
Exasperated, I stay low under the water but swim towards her. As I get closer, I see what has captured her attention. A human male has pinpointed her location and they are having a stare off. I panic. Humans are never supposed to see us!
Rolling my eyes at her stupidity, I clamp my strong jaws around her tail and pull, hard. Her body jerks under the water and I think we can finally go. But her next actions catch me completely off guard. Instead of leaving, she begins to flail, her hind-leg scores my throat.
Shit, that hurt!
I accidentally release her tail and I see her struggling to reach the surface.
I look past her lithe body and I see why. The guy she was watching has fallen into water and appears to be drowning.
I frown, wondering why she'd care about a random human. In the back of my mind, jealousy starts to slowly burn.
She quickly makes her way to the now limp form. Grabbing the back of his shirt with her muzzle, she breaches the surface and starts to head to shore.
I growl, losing the last of the precious air I had held.
With great reluctance, I follow behind her.
She and the human are almost to the small, secluded beach. I huff and hurry to catch up.
By the time I do, she's already dragging the body onto the shore. Within the blink of an eye, she turns. Frantically, I look around to see if anyone is nearby. Lucky for us both, we are alone and the sunlight has finally started to descend. Within minutes, the sun will have set.
I grimace.
I have no idea how we are going to get home without detection now... Surely the Swimmers are out patrolling the waters by now. It's going to be near impossible to avoid them...
I cast a furious glare towards the human male, but my girl has her back to me, and I'm completely ignored.
I hear her frantically doing chest compressions, but the male is not responding.
An icy spike of red hot jealousy shoots down my spine as I see her lean down and give him mouth-to-mouth. A small snarl leaves my lips and she whips her head around to glare at me.
"Help me save him, Tahoi."
I hesitate.
"NOW!" she bellows.
I walk over and put one clawed paw on him. I suddenly press down, hard. The body convulses but then lays still. I do it a few more times until I hear the faint rhythm of his heart beat. I snort and move away, my job done.
I walk a few feet away and look at the sky. Getting frustrated, I turn and shoot a glare at the birthday girl.
"Sassy, what the fuck are you doing?" I snarl, finally losing my temper. She moves back and I see that she was stroking his head, trying to rouse him from sleep.
Her head snaps up as she hears her nickname being called in a sharp, angry tone.
"I... I don't know..." she whispers, "Something was pulling me to this guy. I couldn't just let him die."
I frown, "Yes, well, we might be dead if we don't hurry back to the Reserve. At this point, I'm not even sure if we'll make it in time before they close the gates... let alone be able to dodge all the Swimmers who are out on patrol by now," I growl, frustrated.
