CHAPTER THREE - Crocus

The boy was walking through the school corridors. Even if he wasn't standing too much out of the crowd, he was pretty tall for his age. His blond hair was really messy, and his blue eyes filled with determination were looking around. In his hand he was holding something looking like an umbrella.

But there was one thing making him different from all the people. His name was Minamoto Kou, and he was an exorcist. He could see supernaturals, which he had to eliminate. And the umbrella thing was actually a weapon to fight them – a Raiteijou, that's been handed down through his family for ages.

He had one person in mind – Hanako-san of the toilet. As he heard, a really dangerous ghost, and a murderer when he was alive. Through his first two years of the middle school there was nothing that he should've worried about, but lately, some weird things started happening. And he assumed it was his fault.

Kou heard a strange noise. He turned around to see pink creatures, sliding the handrail. Mokke. Maybe he should ask them where is Hanako? No, no, he was an exorcist, they should fear him.

"Hey. Pip-squeaks" he said, looking at Mokke threateningly. "You know a Hanako?" he asked, but it only scared them as they ran away. "AH! HEY! Ugh! Well, fine! I'll find him myself!" he stood on a handrail and started yelling: "JUST YOU WAIT, HANAKO! I'M ON MY WAY TO EXORCISE YOU! HAHAHA!"

Everyone looked at him as he was crazy. Some students started whispering.

"What's wrong with him?"

"Let's just ignore him..."

A boy heard a quiet laugh. He turned his head to see a Mokke that didn't run away. As it realized in what danger it was, it quickly escaped to the garden. The blond followed it. He saw a middle-school girl squatting next to the flowers, watering them. She looked at him.

"Can you tell me something?"

Kou looked around and pointed at himself. "Are you talking to me?". She nodded. "Sure, what is it?"

Her facial expression changed from concerned to amused way too fast. "What was that just now?" she giggled. "'Just you wait, Hanako!'. That was funny!"

This made him realize that everybody could see him threatening some ghost that wasn't even there. He covered his mouth, blushing.

"Do not worry, in some time they won't remember it." At the same moment a Mokke jumped on her shoulder.

"Do you... also see them?" he asked.

"Huh? See who?"

"Never mind, forget it" he squatted next to her. 'She's going to think I'm weird!' he thought. He had to fix his image. "What are you doing?"

"... I am... watering flowers? I thought it is pretty obvious."

"Oh... right." he facepalmed. 'Good job, Kou. Good job.'

They stayed in silence for a while. She put a watering can aside. "Did you know that if you talk to flowers, it might help them grow?" a girl smiled to him kindly.

'Why would she come with that just now?'

"Look!" she grabbed his chin and turned his face to a small garden. "Peonies, you grew much bigger since last time! And about you, orchids, your petals have nice colors!"

"...Don't you get embarrassed by talking to some plants?"

She immediately hit him in the head.

"OUCH! What was that for?!"
