I stared at the paper, my room.
What did that mean? Why did she keep leaving me subliminal messages. My mind raced back to when I was getting picked up by the ambulance, and she didn't even mutter a 'goodbye.' or an 'I'll see you there.'
We were so close when we didn't know who each other were, I had dreams of meeting her and taking her shopping at the mall, getting ice cream with her and just hanging out with her like a friend, so I could finally understand what it meant to have a friend, so I could finally experience what having a friend felt like.
We couldn't do any of that though, hell, I don't even know if she still likes me.
I gave up trying to think, my leg hurt too bad. I couldn't even sit up in my hospital bed.
I know Myungdae would be here soon, but would Hyejoo show up too? Probably not, if she couldn't give me one more word of reassurance.
Hyejoo and I were supposed to be friends, why was she treating me like I'm weak?
Maybe I couldn't blame all of this on her.
I watched my nurse come into the room, her eyes were jet black and her eyes were cat-eye shaped, she was really pretty for an old lady.
"Hello, Gowon. You will need a surgery for your arm. But a few weeks of rest, and cast and that leg should be all right."
I smiled at her, I was glad I wouldn't have to spend my entire life in a wheelchair. I wasn't strong like those people that lived with one leg or one arm.
"Your insurance company ringed our phone, informing us about your payment method. You have nothing to worry about." She smiled slightly.
I smiled back at her, getting her name by scanning the name tag on her chest, "Thank you... uh- Jennie?"
She nodded, before walking out the room.
I began to hear a bunch of weird noises from the bush outside my hospital room, I began to panic a bit. The wind wasn't too strong and there was no real reason for it. I thought it'd be a stan creeping out my window.
I began to hear some familiar voices.
"Move!" A female voice spoke, and I raised an eyebrow once I heard another voice.
"No! You move!" A male voice said.
It was definitely Hyejoo and Myungdae. I watched them peek out the bush to make sure that Jennie had been out of sight. They climbed in through the window, I watched them struggle not even realizing that Hyejoo had actually came back for me. It warmed my heart a bit, but I couldn't forgive her that easily.
"Chaewon, where did you find this guy?" Hyejoo spoke, pointing at Myungdae who had multiple bush leaves on his hair.
I just shrugged, "I can't keep up, she's too fast." Myungdae spoke, breathing heavy.
I mean, all she does is run away from the cops. I wanted to say that, but it would just be too out-of-pocket. I watched the two argue before seeing Hyejoo walk over to my hospital bed.
"Oh man! You look terrible." Hyejoo said, looking over my body.
"Thanks." I said sarcastically. Myungdae slowly followed her and looked over my body, keeping quiet.
"Chaewon, I'm sorry." She said.
I tried to remain quiet, in reality I truly did forgive her but sometimes you can't let people get off that easy.
"Hey string cheese, can you leave so I can talk to Chaewon?" Hyejoo said to Myungdae, and before he could retaliate Hyejoo pushed him out.
"Listen, he really feels bad about what happened to you." She began to speak, I didn't quite comprehend though.
"Why?" I asked, my gaze locked on hers. Nothing could make her not look attractive in my eyes.
Hyejoo paused before she began to speak, lowering her gaze to the ground.
"He thinks it's his fault that you got hit, we were talking about it on the way here."
"That's ridiculous."
"I know, but that skinny little boy over there really does care about you. Whether you care about him or not-"
"Why do you care." I interrupted her, because what she was saying to me didn't make a lot of sense. She had no reason to care about Myungdae when they had just met, I couldn't tell if she cared about me that much, and we've known each other for 5 years.
"Why do you not care?" Hyejoo said, glaring at me.
"What do you want me to do, I'm crippled." I said, rolling my eyes.
"About that." Hyejoo began, she was beginning to get on my nerves the way she was extremely caring for everyone but me and herself. "Why did you make it seem like, I was the reason you got hit."
"Were you not?" I said, returning the glare.
"Can't you see that I'm trying?" Hyejoo said, her voice lowering and becoming a bit sadder. I sighed to myself, what were we doing?
"Yeah.." I responded, "I'm sorry Hyejoo, it wasn't your fault."
Hyejoo didn't respond, it was quiet for a moment. It shouldn't have been like this. WE shouldn't have been like this.
I had to fix this, I'd have to become strong so I could protect Hyejoo and Myungdae the way they protect me. If I don't care about anyone, I'd have to care about them. They'd done everything for me and more.
I couldn't let this leg, or this arm get in the way of helping them. It was decided, as soon as they would release me from this hospital I would do everything and anything in my power to take care of the two people who had always taken care of me. We would have to leave for America, I do not care what Hyejoo would say. I have to stand up for myself.
This would be way better than a trip to the mall or the ice cream shop, this would be a real adventure with my two best friends, and it would start sooner than the both of them even knew.
They may not understand but they'd be thankful once everything took place.
