(A/N) The song I posted is mentioned in this chapter, I highly recommend listening to it. Happy reading!
Senior year was a little scary for me, but I'm really happy now. Rich and I have been dating for two years, and my friends are doing really well.
Truthfully, I never thought I'd make it out of junior year alive, especially because Isabella still teased us whenever she could. But Henry ended up moving schools, which was really fortunate for the both of us.
Today I walked into school just like I would any other day. I said hello to all my friends, then we all walked to our lockers. I was getting my last book when Rich came up to me, wearing the red sweater that my grandmother made for him, along with black dress pants. His hair is shorter now, he almost looks like Atticus Lincoln from Grey's Anatomy. I could tell he was up to something when I saw his smile.
"What did you do this time?" I quipped, but he didn't laugh. He just kept smiling. "Rich?"
"Today is October second," he replied.
"Yeah, I know that. What about it?"
He gave me another smile. "It's okay if you forgot, I know I'm super cheesy."
"Rich, what is it?" He pulled a bouquet of flowers out from behind my back. Roses. "Shit, I forgot our anniversary, didn't I?"
"You did indeed." Rich handed me the roses, and I took them with a bewildered look on my face.
"How the hell are you more romantic than I am?"
"I don't know, all I know is that I love you. And I have a number of things planned for today." He gave me a kiss on the forehead. "Those should be fine in your locker until the end of the day." Rich walked away, and I couldn't help but wonder what was going to happen next.
"So, Sidney tells me that Rich walked up to you with roses before homeroom?" Maximillian asked me. We were in chorus, and I was getting increasingly anxious to see what Rich had in store.
"Yep. Today is our anniversary, I completely forgot."
"Well, who would've remembered? Rich is a different breed of romantic." I chuckled. "Anyway, the last time Sid tried to be romantic, we ended up at McDonalds." Maximillian and Sidney had started dating last year, which nobody was surprised about.
"Oh my God, that definitely sounds like him."
"Does it? Wow, people really have low expectations of my boyfriend, don't they?" Before I could answer, Mr. Cunningham, the chorus teacher, started the announcements.
"Before we start class, Rich asked if he could say something." I looked up, and Rich was holding his guitar.
"Shit!" I whisper-shouted. "Max, what is he doing?" He just shrugged.
"So, today I brought my guitar to school, because I want to play a song for somebody."
"Oh, please." Isabella stood up. "Mr. Cunningham, you're really going to waste class time for this? Shouldn't we be rehearsing?"
"Shouldn't we be rehearsing?" Sidney mocked, making the entire class laugh.
"Cool, um... I know a couple of songs, but the most notable one for me is Perfectly Perfect by Simple Plan. Plus it's the only one I can actually sing."
"Tell us who it's for!" Maximillian shouted, making me blush.
"Oh, just someone." He winked at me, and I couldn't help but smile. As he started to strum, I truly understood why I loved him. He looked at me the entire time he was singing, which I didn't even know he could do until today. It nearly brought me to tears.
The song ended, and Rich walked back to his seat next to me. I gave him a hug, and he simply whispered in my ear, "There's more."
I went to lunch with Jillian, since she was the only one in the class before that with me. When we walked into the cafeteria, all of the lights were off.
"Holy fuck, how is this happening?" I asked myself. Jillian gave me a look.
"Last time I have checked, that is not a nice word." She elbowed me playfully.
"I'm sorry, I'm just a little scared of what Rich has in store for me." She nodded, and I looked around the cafeteria to see if I could make out the shadows at the tables. The lights went on, and I saw Rich sitting in the center of the cafeteria with a basket in his hands.
"What is all this?" Jillian asked.
"It's a picnic," Rich grinned. I walked over to him, a puzzled look on my face. "In this basket is a bowl of your favorite, penne ala vodka, from your favorite restaurant down the road. I went to pick it up during my study hall."
"What?"
"There's also a batch of snickerdoodles that I made myself since I know you love them. I also took the liberty of setting up that table over there for just the two of us." I looked over at the table he was pointing to, which had a white tablecloth on it. It also had two grape sodas, my favorite drink.
"How the hell did you do this without getting in trouble?" I asked, bewildered.
"I told you, I bought it during my study hall, plus there's no rule about tablecloths at this school." I didn't reply. "Shall we sit?"
"You really went above and beyond, didn't you?" I remarked, giving him a smile.
The food he bought was really good, and so were the cookies. It was so hard to believe that Rich still had more in store for me. But he kept reminding me the entire time.
The school day ended, and Rich showed up at my locker. He had planned on coming home with me that day anyway, but I felt it in my gut that there was something going on.
Rich covered my eyes as we walked up to the front door. "What did you do to my house?" I asked him. "Are there doves in my living room or something?"
"You'll see."
"I won't if your hands are covering my eyes."
"Just wait a minute." I sighed as he led me inside the house. We walked for a while, then he took his hands away. "Surprise!"
I stared in awe. Rich had put dozens of roses in my living room, and hung up loving banners on the walls. They said things like "You're my everything," "I'm lost without you," and "You'll always be mine." I looked back at Rich, who simply took off his sweater to reveal a tuxedo.
"Did I leave you speechless or something?" he joked, adjusting his bowtie. I felt myself start to tear up.
"How the fuck did my parents let you do this?" I laughed.
"To this day, I have no clue." He walked up to me. "I love you so much, George Liam Williams." That was when I heard music playing. It was that same song by Simple Plan.
"Rich..."
"What do you say," he began. "Will you dance with me?"
With tears in my eyes, I put one hand on Rich's shoulder and one on his waist. He did the same, and then we started to dance.
And my God, I didn't know Rich was so rhythmic. I stayed in time with his steps, and with my heartbeat. He looked into my eyes, which were filled with tears just like his. I never wanted the song to end.
"So," he grinned. "Will you kiss me?"
I felt the room fade away, and suddenly Rich was the only person I could see. Wrapping my arms around his neck, I told him, "I will."
And I did.
