"You're sure he's the right candidate?" The paladin asked, weary of his general's decision.

"Of course, after all, he is the final generation in the project," the tall, gray-bearded man replied.

"If I may ask sir?" His subordinate questioned.

"You may," the general replied.

"What is Project: After-Effect?" He asked.

"Well," the gaunt man straightened up in his power armor, "you know about the special assignment that was tasked to a select number of Paladins?"

"No."

"Of course, why would you. Anyhow, these Paladins were given injections that did not alter their DNA, but their offspring's DNA if they were to have any. The goal of the project is to observe the after-effects that occur on the children of these Paladins. And that boy on that operating room table is the offspring of one of our own."

"Incredible, the applications are limitless," the young Paladin said in awe.

"Yes," the older Paladin said, turning to face the lower-rank, his laser pistol aimed at the trainee's heart, "now, if you'll excuse me, you know classified information and I have a procedure to overlook," he said as he pulled the trigger.

The last sound heard in that room was the thud of the man's body hitting the floor...
