'Jackson,' Lyder said, 'why is dormitory C kept in such a shoddy state?'
'We use it to promote hard work to leave the place. You can probably tell that it does not always work so well, in the case of Varnyard. There are very few people in years three and four still in there.'
One night, on the path back to their dormitories, the passed by Sebastian in the hallway.
'Lyder,' he said, turning his head, 'can you come to my office for a moment?'
'Sure,' Lyder said, 'I'll catch back up to you guys later,' he added to Emily and Jones. It was the first time that he had seen Sebastian since their first duel together at the entrance exam. He led him to his office on the same floor, a small yet cosy room. Portraits of Sebastian's favourite cards hung from the wall and a glass cabinet lay in the corner. His desk was simple and professional, its sole purpose being to get work done as efficiently as possible, therefore lacking any distracting glamour. Sebastian sat behind the desk and showed Lyder a seat.
'I saw your duel with Jones,' he said, 'it was great. I'm glad you won.' He pulled out a deck of cards and began to shuffle it. 'How about a casual game?'
'Sure,' Lyder said.
Half an hour later, Lyder leaned back on his chair, defeated and exhausted. They had played two games, and Sebastian came out on top for both of them.
'You are doing much better,' he said, 'I see you are paying good attention to my field and hand. Good job.'
'I still have ways to go, though.'
'Everyone does. Lyder, I want to show you something.' He led him to the glass cabinet. 'Despina – Turning Gears of Anger.'
Lyder read the text, intrigued by its protective cage. Zero attack, fifteen life, rank three. This card can only be attacked by cards of the moon. Once per turn, both players put a card from their hand to the top of their deck. Furthermore, while this card is on the field, monsters in the graveyard can be used as material while using a conductor for an alchemy summon. This card is amazing. What's special about it, though? What's a card of the moon?'
'My current hypothesis,' Sebastian said, 'is that it is a card named after a moon. Despina is one of Neptune's moons. I haven't had the chance to test it out, as I've found no one else with a card like this.'
'Why isn't it in your deck? It's too strong to ignore, especially since no one can defeat it.'
'That's part of the reason. I like fair games more than anything. Also, my deck does not revolve around alchemical summons. Anyway, it's getting quite late now. Let's play again. You may be new to this school, but you're quite the opponent. You know, I haven't been messing around these past matches. It's dishonourable to. I fear you may be defeating me soon.' He laughed and waved goodbye as Lyder stepped out of the door.
It was a month of hard work, studying, duelling and detention later when Jones, Lyder and Emily said goodbye to Jackson for their last detention.
'How many packs did we save up?' Lyder asked. Emily began counting on her fingers.
'Thirty days, three of us, we have ninety packs. Exciting.'
'I really hope I get another Lady of the Lake.'
'I want the unholy rare Lucifer,' Jones said.
'In your dreams, Jones,' Emily said, 'One percent chance to get an unholy rare a pack, and there are three of them in total.'
