It was Halloween time, and everyone was racing against the clock for costumes, candy bags, etc. At the end of school, I hoisted my book bag on my back, and headed off home. Now I just gotta pick a costume to wear for the talent show today! What talent show? Well my high school is hosting a talent show on Halloween day!! I was so nervous about playing on stage in front of everyone. But what's worse is that I'm partners with Ludwig Von Koopa!
And that's big since he's so professional acting and literally the definition of perfect on the piano. We as friends were going to do a duet on piano, but then suddenly I've been getting stage fright as the day grew nearer. Ring Ring! That would be my phone ringing for the 4th time today from Ludwig. "Hello?" I answered after taking a quick breath. "Y/n, are you finished preparing yourself? The show starts at 6:30, where are you?" Ludwig asked in a rushed tone.
"Uh, home, why?" I asked lastly putting on black flats.

"It's 6:27, hurry fast" Ludwig said before immediately hanging up to save me the time. Well I'm done, so I'll just run back to school, and meet up with everyone back stage from the auditorium.
Time Skip
It was exactly 6:30, and the show began. Ludwig and I performed together last, so the whole time I just stood away from the curtains so I wasn't recognized. "Why are you so nervous, Y/n? You weren't like this during rehearsal" Ludwig responded, patting my back. "I've never been a part of the talent show, so this is my first time on stage" I said rubbing my right arm with my left. "What do I do?" I said watching everyone else perform, and then get praised with applause after they were done. "Just calm down, you'll be okay" Ludwig said also watching the others perform.
"It's only for a little bit, trust me" Ludwig reminded referring to my beginning solo act. "I know but it'll be only me is the point, I don't wanna mess up" I said pacing around completely scared. "Y/n look at me, you're not gonna mess up. We've practiced this more than enough times" Ludwig reassured me before hearing another applause, and then hearing our names. "Oh no, I can't do this-" I said before immediately getting cut off by Ludwig holding my hands cautiously.
"Yes you can, now go. It'll only be for a bit" Ludwig said pushing me off. Oh yeah, and Ludwig was wearing a vampire costume. It suits him nicely- Y/n, pull yourself together. I slowly got upstage, and already felt sick to my stomach. I sat at the bench of the piano, and started my opening part of the song (song is above, and if you can't see it, it's the piano duet from Corpse Bride). It was slow, so I guess I couldn't really mess up unless I got ahead of myself.
All of a sudden, I felt like my hands were slipping of the piano for some reason, so I did a quick tap and readjusted my hands. This scared me because I thought I already messed up, but when I was done with my part, I heard the higher keys begin playing. Ludwig began playing his part, and then after it went back to me, and him, then me. Finally, we began playing together on the piano, and I wasn't so scared anymore! I felt eyes from everyone, but then I realized Ludwig's eyes were on me too which I saw from the corner of my eye. He seemed amazed I pulled it off.
I stayed focus on the performance we were giving, and never looked up once even for a second. I was also amazed I was able to keep it up for this long, so I too smiled happily while we played together. As we both finished in sync, I was a sweating madness from my elbow to my hands. So much movement! How does Ludwig keep it up for so long? Ludwig and I both got up from the bench and bowed together, everyone applauding and saying "good job" or "awesome!".
We both got off stage, and sat back in chairs behind the stage."See? I told you you could do it, Y/n-" Ludwig said before being cut off by me squeezing them in a hug. "Okay okay, I need to breathe" Ludwig said rubbing my back before gently shoving me off. "Thanks to you, I got over my fear of performing of stage! Thanks, Ludwig" I said giving him a quick peck on the cheek. "Yo-you're welcome Y-y/n" Ludwig stuttered all because of my actions. I giggled at his bright blush.
"We will be now announcing the winners of the Halloween Talent Show!" the announcer declared to the crowd. "Come on, Ludwig, we gotta go up with the others" I said literally pulling him out of his seat. "I'm coming, I'm coming" Ludwig said hoisting himself up. "In third place, we have... Martha and Lukas! Second place... Rosalina! And finally first place..." the speaker said with a dramatic pause in between. 'Please be us, please be us' I thought crossing my fingers.
"Y/n and Ludwig!" The speaker said pointing at us, and the spotlight landing right above us. I was in actual shock! "We did it?" I asked surprised we actually did. "Ye-" Ludwig was gonna answer before I cut him midway. "We did it!" I said hugging him again tightly, and jumping around like a child. "Please be more professional" Ludwig said smiling to see we won. The speaker came back on stage to give us all our trophies for our place.
"Ludwig look! We got first place!" I said showing him the trophy with our name at the bottom and the event name. "I knew we could do it, you just needed some reassurance" Ludwig said shrugging it off like it was nothing. "You big goof" I said punching him lightly on the shoulder.
Time Skip
On our way home, Ludwig kept saying how he knew everything was going to be fine, and how funny it was that I was so nervous. "How would you like it if I were you, and you were in my situation?" I asked putting him on the spot. "I'd remain calm because I put myself into this similar to you didn't have to be my partner" Ludwig said laughing. "Ha ha, very funny" I said sarcastically laughing. "Well here you go" I said handing the trophy to Ludwig.
"Why me?" Ludwig said putting a hand in front of the trophy. "Because you helped me get over my fear, and well wouldn't be here without me" I said proudly smiling, and shoving it closer to Ludwig. "You're right, so you take it" he said smugly while pushing it back to me. "Really?" I said looking at the shiny gold trophy. "Yeah, I have a lot of those at home" Ludwig bragged. "Thank you, Ludwig" I said giving another hug before we left. "You're welcome, Y/n" Ludwig said.
We separated from the hug, and I looked back down to the trophy that was in my hands with glee. Ludwig was looking up in thought, until he one handedly grabbed my chin, and planted a kiss on my cheek before heading off home. "I'll see you on Monday, Y/n" Ludwig said walking down the sidewalk home. "Goodbye" I said blushing furiously, holding my cheek. I walked back home, holding both the trophy in my right hand, and my cheek on the left. All I could think was 'best kiss ever' as I happily walked back home. THE END.
