One Month Later: Post Osaka Incident
_____________________________Cherry blossom petals danced across the sidewalk on a buzzing Saturday morning. The sun shone through the thin strip of clouds encompassing the sky, and the canopy held by the trees swayed with the wind. The sound wasn't nearly enough to deafen the sound of Aizawa Shouta's racing heart, and he flexed his sweaty hands at his sides, doing his best to calm his nerves.
He stared at the grand oak doors before him with impatience coursing through his veins. All that separated him from entering the building were a set of cement steps, but he urged himself against it. He wouldn't let anything complicate this process. Not a single thing.
He turned his head toward the cherry blossom tree rooted in the grass beside the building, and noted the small children kicking a ball to one another. The sound of their laughter only made him more nervous. He eventually shoved his hands into his pockets to cease his fidgeting.
Another gust of summer wind danced with the flyaways of his ponytail, and he finally settled with turning his gaze back to the doors he had been waiting to be opened for the past fifteen minutes.
And at that moment, they did.
Aizawa's eyes widened as he sucked in a breath, and he had to urge himself to keep his feet anchored to the ground as the person he had been waiting for exited the building.
Her black hair gusted to the side, and he watched as she brought a hand up to keep the strands out of her face. In her free hand she held a suitcase, and she was dressed in a formal brown pleated skirt and blazer to match. What draped around her outfit was the black coat that he recognized instantly, and the smile she gave him nearly made his heart pop in his chest.
"Shouta." She said, and the vision of her skipping down the stairs and jumping into his arms made the biggest grin spread across his face.
He caught her midair and had to take a few steps back to avoid toppling over, and couldn't suppress the belly laugh that forced its way out of his mouth.
"My girl..." he said, overcome by happiness to finally see her. "Look at you, all grown up."
"It's only been a month," Rin grinned as she stepped down onto the floor, releasing him so she could look up at his face. "It went by real fast, right?"
"Don't even get me started with that." Aizawa rolled his eyes, but he still smiled, and Rin still laughed.
"She should be set and ready to go," Hanako Hamada — Rin's social worker — said as she approached them, handing Aizawa a copy of the legal paper work regarding her adoption. "All of her things are in her case, and she's cleared to begin classes at U.A. starting Monday."
"Thanks," Aizawa said as he wrapped an arm around Rin's shoulders. "For everything you've done for her."
"I'll be in touch," Hamada said with a calm smile. "I'm glad everything worked out."
Rin nodded thankfully in her direction whilst Aizawa merely waved in farewell, and thus proceeded to lead Rin toward his car parked on the curb.
"So," Rin said, bouncing in the passenger seat whilst Aizawa started the car. "Do they know I'm coming today?"
"They're none the wiser, just like you wanted." Aizawa replied, and Rin excitedly clapped her hands.
"I can't wait to see the look on Mina's face!" She cheered, and Aizawa shook his head in amusement.
"Midoriya has been asking about you," he told her, and she quickly turned her head to meet Aizawa's side-eye. "Constantly."
Rin smiled loosely. "How is he? He's not still angry... is he?"
