As I wait for my parents to come home. I start cleaning the house, that way my mom wouldn't complain about how dirty the house is. Then I also thought about how crazy life is. Ryder Avery's parents have owned that house their whole lives. So then, why has no one ever seemed to live there? Why was it left to be abandoned? Many questions in the world that non of us may ever know.
Finally after 30 minutes of cleaning the kitchen and the living room. I decided to change out of my school clothing. I went up stairs to my room and I grabbed my NASA sweater and the matching leggings to go with it. Decided to take off my mascara and put my hair into a messy bun. Nothing feels better than being comfortable. Then I put some socks on and wore my Adidas, sport flip flops.
Finally as I was about to walk out of my room, there was a flashing light coming from my window reflecting onto my walls. Both of my parents were here. My dad helping my mom get out of the car, like a true gentlemen. Then a moment later they both waved towards Ryder Avery's house. Wait what? Why?
I ran as fast as I could down the stairs towards the door. I unlocked the lock and twisted the knob. As soon as I swung the door open, my parents and the Avery's were all staring at me. My once so happy my mom is coming home smile, vanished. I looked into my parents eyes as confused, that I could see my own reflection in them.
Then I gave all the Avery's a nice smile and told them to come in. Ryder and I gave each other a wide eyes look of questioning. As soon as they walked in, I looked at my parents and widened my eyes to them. They also gave me the same look back but instead they had a "go with the flow and don't be rude" look.
They both gave me kisses on my cheeks and I as well to them. As their whole bodies finally entered passed the door, I closed it and locked it. As I turned around I meet myself standing in front of Ryder. I'm guessing he stayed there until everyone came in. Kind of embarrassing.
"Hey," I said to him awkwardly.
"Hey, um I was wondering where you were going to sit? I mean if you and I could sit together, please." He says shyly with his beautiful ocean like eyes.
"Oh yeah of course, I got you." I smile at him. Then we head towards the table.
The table is between my kitchen and the living room, the table was a pretty grey authentic color. My parents and Ryder's parents were all in the kitchen together, laughing and getting the food ready that Mrs. Avery brought. I don't get it, how do they know each other?
Ryder and I sat on the same side of the table, the one closest to the wall. Then I realized I should offered him something to drink. I also realized the table did not have plates, forks or napkins. I got up.
"Hey Ryder, would you like something to drink?" I asked staring at him for a moment.
"Yeah, may I have some water please. Thank you." He said as he smiled.
I walked into the kitchen which was on my right side, I went straight towards the fridge and once I turned around my parents and Ryder's parents were laughing and smiling. I grabbed a water bottle for Ryder and headed back to the table. On the way I also grabbed six plates and mats. I handed the water bottle to Ryder, who was on his phone.
"Thank you," he said with a smile. "Would you like me to help you?"
"Oh, yeah. Thank you." I said while handing him the plates.
I went around placing all the mats on the table and Ryder behind me placing the plates. All I could keep thinking about was, how my parents and his parents know each other so well?
"Hey, Ryder?" I say turning my head back to face him.
"Yeah, whats up? Wait, Don't tell me, am I doing this wrong?" He says with a worried expression.
"No, you're doing just fine. " I laugh a little and turn to see he is too. "I was going to say, how do our parents eve know each other?"
"I honestly have no idea, but they all look pretty comfortable around each other." He says as we both look over to the kitchen, watching our parents laugh with one another.
"They really do," I then realize that Ryder and I were standing super close, to the point where our elbows touched one another. I cleared my throat out and continued placing the mats on the table.
As soon as we were done, I told my parents and the Avery's, that Ryder and I had finished setting up the table. They just nodded their heads and started bringing the food and their drinks. This is so weird for me to see, I laugh to myself as I go sit down next to Ryder. I think Ryder heard me because he looked at me confused at one point.
"What?" he looks up at me.
"Nothing," I laughed a little as I sat down.
"Somethings up, tell me," he says smirking.
"I just think its funny seeing our parents laugh and hang out together." I said.
"For real, I never knew my parents had friends. You know, where they actually talk and make each other laugh." He laughs as we look at them coming towards the table.
"Don't think I didn't hear you guys, its good to see you two catching up." Ryder's mom says as we both have a confused expression on our faces.
"Wait, mom what do you mean?" Ryder asks.
"Yeah. Mrs. Avery what do you mean by catching up?" I asked right after Ryder.
"Awe you two are just adorable, and sweetie call me Sarah." She tells us as she continues talking to my parents, while Ryder and I eat in confusion.
