Song: Shadow Moses - Bring Me The Horizon
Being trapped here at Harlowe's cottage has proven to be informative so far. It's been at least two days and I've learned that Harlowe doesn't sleep, drinks coffee in the morning, tea around noon, then rum the rest of the day. It never seems to change. She eats often, but not much. Two cookies here, a sandwich there, a few grapes, just little things that don't amount to much. I've also noticed something about her right hand. Every so often she will clench her fist then flex her hand as if she'd been injured at some point but I haven't noticed any physical sign of a scar or injury. That may help me once I'm able to escape the bonds. She doesn't leave me unattended for long, just enough to keep up her hygiene and personal business. In those brief times, I've been working at the ropes around my wrists, trying desperately to wear them thin so I can break them. Once that's done, it'll be easy to remove the rest, just leaving me to deal with the chain. Harlowe has the key. I've seen it dangling from her neck by a thin silver chain. She likes to toy with it as she reads, sliding it back and forth along the necklace. Even restricted to a ten foot circle, I'm sure that I can get the key away from her when the time comes. The sword is in her cottage still so I can just grab it and run. I just hope that Iladriel stays out of harm's way and Harlowe won't come after her claiming she was involved. Torin can take care of himself, I'm sure, but Iladriel is too young.
I look up from pacing the circle as Harlowe comes into the room from her private quarters. She'd untied my ankles the first day I was here, allowing me some movement and the reach to the bathroom. Sadly she wouldn't untie my hands but with how they are, I can still manage it with some difficulty. Harlowe had gone into the bathroom to take her daily bath and forgot her clothes. She came out with a large towel wrapped securely around her body and hurried off into the bedroom with a dark blush on her face. She's now dressed in tight fitting black pants, her standard studded boots, and a black sleeveless top. I'd seen her tattoos before, the ones on her neck and under her eye, but I didn't know that she had an entire sleeve in the same floral theme running down her right arm with koi fish as well.
"Where are you from?" I ask as she moves to the kitchen to prepare her tea.
"Why does it concern you Obi?"
"I'm just curious. Your accent is unusual, same with the tattoos. They're common among pirates yet you are not called Captain. Your cottage fits more within the traveler style of life but you are far too violent to be one."
"Studying me?" She chuckles. "I am a lot of things, Obi. I am of the earth, nothing more. Are you hungry?"
"Is your plan to just keep me here as your pet forever? There has to be something further than leaving me bound and shackled to your floor." I ask instead.
"I have big plans. Big plans. What I'm waiting on is the identities of those who have helped you."
"I told you, no one helped me."
"You lie." Her eyes leave mine and jump over to the sword before a sly grin crosses her face. "The child."
"No." I argue and a curse leaves my lips as she abandons the tea on the counter to grab her sword and rushes out of the cottage. "No!"
I hit the floor painfully as the chain halts my movement toward the door. I let out a louder string of curses and try to reach for Master's sword. It's the only weapon that's even slightly within my reach, but it's just too far away. I abandon the sword and look for something that could possibly give me a further reach. My eyes fall on Harlowe's book, a rather large leatherbound book she left resting on the back of the couch. If I aim it right... I toss the book toward the handle of the sword since it's slightly hanging off the edge and the weight is just enough to knock it to the floor. A grin crosses my face as I use my leg to reach out and manage to slide it back to me.
I'm free from the ropes as Harlowe returns. There's no blood on her or her sword and Iladriel isn't with her, so that's a good sign. Her expression as she realizes that I'm no longer fully bound is not a good sign though. Her glare darkens as she draws her sword and I quickly reach for Master's and block her hit.
"Where's the girl, Obi?"
"She had nothing to do with it."
"You gain nothing by defying me. You will not leave here and you cannot keep her safe."
I shove against her blade and fall back until I can gain the upper hand. We fall into what would almost be a dance if it weren't for the ferocity of our attacks and the clanging sounds of metal against metal. It's slightly harder to fight given the fact my ankle is still secured but it puts her at a slight disadvantage as well since she has to maneuver around the chain. As she lunges toward me to attack again, I spot the key that's come free from her shirt and bring the sword down toward her with one hand as I grab the key with the other. I rip the chain from her neck as she falls back. I hurry to put more distance between us before jamming the key into the lock. It clicks open as she tackles me to the floor.
