(Patton's Point of View)
I woke up as soon as the Sun hit my face. "Wow, this ground will always be uncomfortable." I said, getting up.
"Ok, is today Friday or Saturday... I think it's Saturday.. great, I have nothing to do" I sighed.
I walked out from behind the abandoned store- or whatever it was and walked on the sidewalk, looking for useful items, when I saw someone carrying a huge box out to a dumpster. 'That could be useful.' I thought, walking over to them.
"Hi!" I said in the happiest voice I could muster. "Hello there." They said. "I noticed that you have a box that could become quite useful for me." I said.
"This box? This looks like garbage to me." They said. "One persons junk is another mans treasure." I said. (A/n: I know where your mind went, Wiggity)
They giggled, "Fair point, you can take it."
"Thank you!" I said, "I'm Patton... he/him for clarification."
"Talyn, they/them." They said, looking happier.
"Might I ask why you need that box?" They asked. "Probably a bed, to be honest." I responded like it was nothing..
"Why would you use cardboard as a bed?" They asked. "Oh, um.. I'm homeless... so.. this would be bed-er than sleeping on the ground." I said.
Talyn laughed a little at my joke and then looked serious, "Wait, you really are homeless?" Talyn asked with sympathy in their serious eyes.
"Yeah.." I said. "If you would like, you could stay with Joan and I . They're cool." Talyn offered.
"No, thank you, Talyn. I wouldn't want to be a burden." I responded kindly.
"You wouldn't be a burden, but no pressure." They said. They looked as if they were thinking, then said, "Here, take this as a little gift of help.", holding out around 200 dollars. (A/n: who carries 200 dollars with them when taking out the trash 😂)
"I can't take other peoples money." I said, trying to give it back. "No, no, please take it. Joan and I have plenty, we can spare some money." They said.
"Thank you so much! You are very generous." I said, smiling, "Goodbye, Talyn!"
"You're welcome, and goodbye Patton. Remember, our doors are always open." They said, going inside their home while I went to mine.
'I wonder if I just made a new friend." I wondered.
I felt kind of silly, walking around with a big box in hand, but I need this so I have to ignore the embarrassment.
I set the box down and put some clothes in it as a little pillow. 'It's better thank the ground.' I thought, shrugging.
'I wonder if that Talyn person goes to my school... They looked about my age..' I thought.
(Talyn's Point of View)
"If you don't need this box anymore, Joan, I will take it out to the trash." I said, looking at Joan, who is doing homework on a freaking SaTuRdAy.
"Yes, please. Thank you Talyn." They said, looking at me with a smile. "You're welcome, Joan." I said, bringing the box out.
While I was outside, I met a man who is homeless. Patton- he said his name was. I felt like I heard that name at school before.
It makes me sad that not most people help the homeless. I offered him to stay with us, but he said no.
I gave him money and said goodbye. How can he be so nice and happy even if he is homeless? Maybe he is just like that.
Maybe I would see him at school on Monday. Maybe we could be friends.
