Sunrays beamed over the horizon and in to my eyes. Dew was forming on the long grass weeds. The smell of rain and dampness crinkled my nose.

I got up and started to walk to school. I needed to get to school before anyone would notice I slept in somewhere other than a bed. The walk to school was tiring with the however many hours of sleep I got.

I made my way over to the gym change rooms were I washed the smell of rain and dirt from my body and put on my clean clothes. By this time people were gathering the halls getting ready for their classes.

I started to make my way to my locker when principle Sadie stopped in front of me.

"Miss McKenzie please make your way to my office."

People around me started to stare. I walked behind principle Sadie when I locked eyes with Liam. Worry filled his face. Why did he care so much all of a sudden? What made him change into the guy he was before?

As I entered the office Liam's latest hook-up Gen was waiting to be accompanied.

"Miss McKenzie and Miss Parrel please enter my office."

What? Why was Genevieve involved in this? We took our sets and sat in awkward silence.

"Okay now Scarlett do you have anything to say about what has happened in the last 2 days?"

My head was thumping in confusion. I thought he knew about my family situation.

"What happened in the last 2 days?"

The principle was about to speck when words, other than his own filled the room.

"Oh don't play dumb Scarlett. Everyone knows that you stealing Liam away from me and the track team. Just confess."

"Now Gen calm down. Shortly Scarlett has a very good explanation. Don't you?"

"Well to be honest I'm not trying to steal Liam away from any one. In fact he has only just started talking to me again since 3 years ago."

"Oh whatever, you have been talking to him more than any one. That's why when people call your house your never home and your parents always says that you're with Liam. So what's that meant to mean?"

"Gen my parents know that I'm not friends with Liam and there to busy arguing to even notice I'm not there so whoever told you this is lying."

Gen's face was frozen so was principle Sadie. I got up and left the room with anger written over my face.

The day went past extremely fast for my liking I ignored any contact with Liam. Which by the looks of it broke him? I needed to find why he's doing this to me, suddenly wanting to be friends again.

I started to head to English and sort this mess out with Liam and his games.

Let's see where this gets me shall we?

I was about to head to class when a teacher pulled me aside and told me something that I dreaded for.

"Scarlett there has been a little incident at home. I don't think it's safe for you to go home tonight."

I furrowed my eyebrows together and looked at the teacher.

"What do you mean not safe. What's happened at home?"

Her face fell.

"Scarlett your mum has been murdered. I’m so sorry."

I went cold. I couldn't hear my heart beat. It felt like something cold just went through my chest and it froze my body along the way.
