"So it's pretty much dull, shadowing my bro," Deon sighed, running his fingers through his hair. He was with Krise, trudging home by the dusty road. "I know how it feels. My twin sis has been hating me for two years now, with no sign of stopping." Krise sympathized with Deon. She knew exactly how he felt. "I guess this is it." They stopped. That was were they had to part ways. "Monday?" Deon tugged absently at his bag. "Monday." Krise gave him a fist-bump, and ran off in the dark night sky, blushing and thoughts rained down in her head.
Monday Morning……
"Hey." Krise was startled out of her sullen mood. "Deon!" She exclaimed, her bad mood forgotten. "Hi Krise." Deon ruffled her hair. His eyes seemed extra bright. "You look a bit gloomy today." "Yeah, my sis was extra mean today. For some reason." Krise pouted. Deon chuckled. "You are too cute, Krise." She blushed immediately. "So, you okay with your brother?" "He always gives me the cold shoulder anyway." Silence. Krise looked up at him, biting her lip. He was frowning. Gently, she put her arm around his shoulders, and patted his arm. Taken aback by her actions, Deon tensed, but relaxed instantaneously. Krise released him, and they walk side by side, quiet but comforted. Krise's mind was a mess. She couldn't tell whether Deon liked her or not. She definitely did. I hope something surprising will happen. Krise thought, smiling subconsciously. "Bye, see you at lunch." Deon ruffled Krise's hair playfully, and winked at her. Krise blushed. Must he always make me blush?! Krise only blushed harder as she ran into class.
Class was boring, as usual, for both of them. And for Krise, it was dealing with the old bat. "Good, better, best......" Mrs Harbot droned on and on. Like duh, who doesn't know that ?!! Krise tapped impatiently on her watch, and rejoiced when it was lunch time. She literally kicked the door open and ran out, ignorant of the muffled protests of kids when the door slammed into their faces. She scanned the area keenly. Her eyes combed the cafeteria, and she finally saw Deon. He was leaning on a vacant table, eyes wandering about. He looks so calm and relaxed, Krise mused. She walked over to him shyly. "Hey Krise. Sit over here." Deon gestured to the seat beside him. Krise flashed a pearly white smile and sat down. Deon sat down as well. "So, how's class?"
"Boring! Mrs Harbot the old bat was droning about good, better best, good... I thought she had a brain problem or something." Krise threw her hands up to show her exasperation. "Haha, my class was boring, but not as bad as yours." Deon chuckled. "Hmph, lucky you." Krise huffed, jabbing at the ham and cheese sandwich Dad prepared for her, before crunching on it. Deon was eating a chocolate doughnut, laughing at her reaction. Am I even that funny?! Krise questioned herself, watching him. Deon sensed that Krise amused by his behavior, and he ate up the rest of his doughnut, ruffling Krise's hair again. She giggled. "Do you want an apple?" Deon took a bite of a green apple, and placed it in front of her. Surprised, Krise slowly held the apple, and took a bite. A perfect blend of sweet and sour. "It's delicious!" She exclaimed. "You can have the rest of it." Deon grinned, watching her devour the apple. She wiped her lips with a napkin and looked at him. They locked eyes. Krise felt herself turning hot in his gaze. She smiled brightly, wanting this moment to last. Deon smiled back. "Let's go clear our trays." Deon said, standing up. He let Krise go in front of him, and followed behind her. She's the sweetest, cutest girl I've ever meet. Deon thought as he watch her gently fold up the lunch bag, then threw it away. Then she gazed at him, and Deon cleared his tray, walking beside the blonde.
"You are really cute, Krise," Deon grinned at her. Krise was sitting on the empty field, observing the shapes the fluffy white clouds make. "In what way?" Krise asked, her eyes bright. "In the way you do things," He replied, touching her arm. She stared at him with a pretty smile, and gave him a hug. It was just like in the lift; he could hear her breathe, and her warmth. He returned the hug, just as they bell rang. They got up grinned at each other, and ran back to class.
