Chapter 13
●●●
The next few days flew by just like the summer had. They spent their days outside playing in the snow, with Yoongi throwing snowballs at Jungkook, who tried catching them with his mouth. The wolf looked happy neither when he didn't manage nor when he did.
Yoongi also spent some time in his parents' house, talking, playing games and cooking with them.
A week passed by and Yoongi and Jungkook were in Yoongi's room. Yoongi was lying on his bed, working on an assignment he would have to finish by the end of the holidays. Jungkook was chewing on a small, dried piece of meat Yoongi had gotten him in the city.
Music was quietly playing over the speakers, which was why Yoongi almost didn't hear the knock on his door. The only reason he noticed was because Jungkook jumped to his feet, ears pressing against the back of his head, and started growling, very quietly but audible nevertheless.
Luckily Yoongi had locked the door earlier. "Yes? Who's there?" He walked over to Jungkook, who was snarling, his fangs on display. "Schhhhh..." He tried, squatting down and patting the wolf's neck, but Jungkook snapped at him. Yoongi quickly pulled his hand back.
„What the hell, Jungkook." The wolf bared his fangs at him now.
"Hey Yoongi. I just thought I'd bring you your dry laundry." His mother called from the other side of the door.
Jungkook turned his head back to the door, his chest vibrating as his growling grew louder.
"Thanks, mum! Could you just put it down in front of my room? I can't open the door right now." He yelled, before turning back to Jungkook. "Jungkook, stop it." He warned. Jungkook, tense as he was, snapped at him again and this time Yoongi didn't manage to pull his hand back in time. Yoongi flinched when he felt Jungkook's teeth against his fingers, but the wolf didn't bite down, halting in the middle of the movement, apparently finally coming to his senses. His tongue darted out, licking over Yoongi's hand, looking almost apologetic.
Yoongi could feel his heart race in his chest. He could hear steps leaving the front porch and Jungkook finally seemed to relax again.
Not knowing what to do Yoongi stared at Jungkook. "You almost bit me."
Jungkook licked his hand again before lowering his head and pushing against Yoongi's chest, his ears pressed against his head, this time in a submissive manner. A small whimper came from the wolf.
Yoongi pressed his lips into a thin line. "I swear to god. You know, you act like a pet but you clearly are not... I have no idea what to do with you."
Jungkook whimpered again, rubbing against him in an apologetically. Yoongi really had no idea what to do. He kept forgetting, but Jungkook was a wild animal. Maybe he should read some more about wolfs. Find out more about the way Jungkook thought. At least if he was planning on keeping the wolf around.
Letting out a deep sigh, Yoongi climbed onto his bed before glaring at Jungkook, who was still ducking away. "You're a piece of work, you know that?"
The older grabbed his computer, typing 'wolves' into the search bar. If anything he could try to learn some more.
Just a couple of days later he and Jungkook went into the woods for a 'walk'. Yoongi had watched some videos about wolves, plus one longer documentary, and read a few paragraphs of the wikipedia page on wolves and was now a self declared professional. Not really, but at least he had something to work with.
Maybe it wasn't the reason for Jungkook's being this tense, but he had read that wolfs that didn't get enough exercise often ended up feeling unsettled and restless. Maybe the fact that Jungkook was around him so much was the reason for the aggression he had displayed. Hopefully a bit of walking through the woods would help with that.
At least Jungkook really seemed to enjoy it. He kept on leaping over stumps and run off just to jump between Yoongi's legs, almost making the older tumble again. Usually the direction he had run off to was entirely different from the one he came back from, too, but Yoongi had just come to the conclusion to stop overthinking things connected to Jungkook.
Jungkook was weird. That wasn't a new piece of information.
"Are you having fun, bud?" Yoongi asked, reaching his hand out, leaving it up to Jungkook whether he wanted to be petted. Jungkook chose to be and started nosing at Yoongi's hand before slobbering it up.
"I take that as a yes." In a swift motion Yoongi squatted down, patting down Jungkook's sides. The warmth Jungkook's fur emitted was almost soothing in the icy winter cold. Yoongi was a bit underdressed for the weather. He was only wearing a normal winter jacket and snow boots, but no gloves and no scarf. He wished he'd at least brought a scarf. His ears were freezing and so were his cheeks. If he had been wearing a scarf he could have wrapped it around his face, to protect it from some of the cold.
Jungkook made a noise of content under his hands, rubbing his gigantic head against Yoongi's chest. Maybe Yoongi was just imagining things, but he felt like Jungkook was still growing. It might have been the fact that he just couldn't get used to how huge the wolf was. If Jungkook tried, he probably could have bitten Yoongi's head off in one go.
"Wanna go back or stay here a bit longer?" Yoongi offered and Jungkook licked his mouth again. Probably could be interpreted as a yes.
It was funny how a bit of research had made Yoongi aware of what Jungkook was doing when he tried to lick his mouth. Apparently wolves usually did that in their packs. Licking inside each other's mouths to check if anyone was sick. Wolves held by humans usually did the same thing to their owners or with their caretakers. Someone they accepted as part of their pack.
So Yoongi's theory of Jungkook purposely aiming for his mouth had been correct. He had to admit, that felt quite satisfying. Nevertheless he was not going to let Jungkook probe his mouth for any signs of being sick. He really didn't feel the urge to tongue wrestle a dog.
He got up again and Jungkook whined, standing up on his rear legs and supporting his weight on Yoongi's chest as he tried to chase after his face. "Sorry, Jk. Gotta keep things PG13."
Very slowly, as if he had understood him, Jungkook dropped back to the floor before turning his head and stalking off into the thicket. Yoongi chuckled. He was so used to Jungkook sulking at this point that he just couldn't take it seriously anymore.
He'd come back anyways.
