“Ok so let’s lay this all out,” I looked at the giant white piece of poster board that I’d dug through three dusty storage closets to find. I began writing all of our clues on to sticky notes and putting them on the edge of the board.
“Here you go sweetie.” Bryce handed me a cup of tea and climbed onto the bed with me. We’d been up for most of the night, talking about all of the things that had been happening lately, making sure we didn’t miss any details. It was important that we figure everything out before we made a decision.
“Ok so you wrote down everything that you talked about with the Goddess right?” I nodded, “and everything that West told you? And everything that both of us have noticed lately.”
I took a sip of the Jasmine tea with extra sugar, just the way I liked it, the heat giving me energy. “Yep I’ve put them in different colors depending on who said it and I’ve put them on the edge. I’m not sure how to categorize them though.”
“Well why don’t we start historically and if we have to change it then we will.”
“Ok so then we’ll start with what the Goddess told me and my own life. So the big question for me is when was the king possessed? Did he kill my parents because of that? Or did he kill them because he wanted the crown?”
“That’s a very good question. It would make sense if killing your parents was apart of the whole plan, it would also make you uncle a better person.”
“But if we’re saying he’s possessed then the person we’ve been dealing with isn’t really my uncle.” This was such a mind bender for me. I don’t like thinking that everything that I’ve ever known is wrong, I don’t like thinking that the person that I’ve hated for my whole life, the person I’ve had a very good reason to hate, is actually a victim just like me.
I sighed and rubbed my head, “I’m gonna have a giant headache before we finish this.”
Bryce chuckled and rubbed my back, “I already have one.” I turned to him and absently mindedly put my hand against his head, I pulled out all of the pain and continued thinking about the time line. “Thanks princess. Why don’t we give him the benefit of the doubt, why don’t we assume that he killed your parents because he was already possessed? “
I sighed, very unwilling to give that man anything, “Sure we can do that. But the minute we find out any different we’re changing it!” I answered adamantly.
“Of course.” He moved the sticky note that read ‘king possessed’ to the top of the board. After that he moved, “Andy’s parents killed” right below it. “Ok so what happened after that?”
“Well this mysterious evil that is taking over the king’s mind gets stronger and stronger.”
“Right and then ten odd years later, the Goddess comes to visit you. Wait, we should assume that Anne Counter has something to do with this.” Bryce grabbed a sticky note and wrote her name down, sticking it on the board.
I sneered, “Why does she have to have anything to do with anything?”
He laughed, “I don’t know why you hate her so much, I mean besides your first encounter. She’s been a lot better since then.”
“Yea well.” I left my answer at that, not saying anything more. “Why do you think she has something to do with all of this?”
