Chapter 5
You awoke from your sleep, the soft aroma of flowers filled your nose. You found yourself in Alfred’s arms and your face heated up a bright red. You quickly slipped away and scolded yourself. What are you doing?! You have no time for this shit.
Your sudden movement woke the blonde next to you up and he yawned loudly. You checked your watch and noticed the time was four o’clock. “Oh fuck.” You cursed.
“Huh, what’s wrong?” He asked groggily as he rubbed his baby blue eyes.
“It’s already four! I don’t even have any food yet! Shit shit shit.” You began panicking. How could you forget. You face palmed and quickly stood up. You felt dizzy from getting up too quickly.
You placed your hand on a tree to regain composure. “Are you okay (y/n)?” He asked you. You nodded and grabbed your gun. As you stumbled across the crunchy dried leaves you heard movement coming from your left.
Getting into position, you crouched down and held out your gun, from the sounds you could hear, you determined the creature lurking in the bushes was a rabbit. Great, mom loves rabbit. You thought to yourself as you effortlessly shot it down.
As you crouched down you noticed something odd, the rabbit had bullets in it’s body that didn’t come from your gun. “Shit” you mumbled as you grabbed the rabbit and Alfred’s arm. “Run.” Was all you said.
In this area, hunters didn’t care for other hunters, but if you killed the food they were hunting, then you’d have to be prepared to run.
The crunching of the leaves got more intense as you two began to hurry along. You could hear footsteps coming from the distance and sort of freaked out. It was stupid really, you felt as if you were a criminal, running away for committing a crime.
Alfred began to slow down to catch his breath. “Hurry the fuck up, if you don’t want to die.” You threatened as you held out your hand.
“Wait. for. a. second.” Alfred panted. I had never thought Al would be this unfit. You stopped for a while and waited for him, till you heard heavy footsteps beating down of the ground.
Before you knew it, there was a large man behind Alfred. The man himself didn’t look threatening but the fact that he was holding out a knife and Alfred was defenseless scared you, and without thinking, you fired your gun at him.
His limp body fell and made a loud thudding noise on the ground. Covering your mouth with your shaking hands, you let out a small cry. “I-i-i killed him” you shook.
Al walked towards you and put his hand on your shoulder. “It’s ok.”
“No Al.” you lashed back at him. “This is not okay. On-on-on what level is this okay?!”
“(y/n), you need to chill.” Alfred said in an attempt to relax you.
“What am I going to tell my mom? This man probably has a family. Can you imagine, they’re at the dinner table and the little boy asks ‘Where’s dad’ and the mom has red eyes and responds with ‘Oh sweetie, dad’s somewhere better.” You bawled. What is mom going to think?
Alfred opened his mouth to respond when you heard a grumble come from the direction of the man, sitting up he shook his head and had a manic look on his face. Shoot. He’s probably wearing one of them fancy bulletproof vests. “See he’s fine!” Alfred cheered.
“That might not be the best thing.” You whispered as he trudged towards you. You pulled Alfred along with you once again, still holding the dead rabbit in your now bloodstained palms.
Thankfully, you were both able to reach your respectful homes. When you opened the creaky old door you saw your mom slouched onto the chair with teary eyes. Placing down the rabbit corpse in the sink you hobbled towards her.
“Ma, what’s wrong?” Your mother didn’t respond and only held out a letter that looked familiar. It looked official when you noticed the title. ‘Army Registration’ you felt yourself begin to shake. “Why did they send this to you?” You questioned, to afraid to hear the answer. “No...they want me to join the army?” Your mother nodded her head as her tears began to overflow.
You grabbed her and silently sobbed. How could they do this? They already took father and now me? What about mom? I can’t let them do this! “M-mom I’m gonna go see Alfred.” As you got up, there was a knock on your door, and you were surprised to find Alfred on the other side of the door.
He shook his head and held a sad look on his face. Small tears swam down your (s/c) cheeks. Alfred wrapped his arms around you, this was crazy, it felt like the world was after you and wanted to make your life a living hell.
Although odd, you began to feel a connection with Alfred, they were taking him away as well, you were going with him, but there was a chance both of you wouldn’t make it out alive.
You heard sobs coming from your mother. “What did your mom say?” you asked Alfred as you rested your head on his broad shoulders.
“She won’t say anything.” he mumbled as he rubbed your back calmingly.
“Same with my mom.” You sighed and stayed in that position for along while. A few days ago, life was perfect. You should’ve realized it was a sign, that your life was going to be shit afterwards.
You never deserved any of this, but after all did anyone deserve any of this?
Why life hated you so much, you would never know, but one thing you were sure of was that you were going to come home safely, you were going to punch life in the face.
