"So," Mayanna started, "What you're telling me is that that boy had the nerve to ghost my best friend on her birthday?"

Before I could object to her rendition of today's events, she scoffed loudly, throwing her hands up in the air, "I swear to Satan, if that boy isn't already a ghost, I'm going to send him to Satan faster than he can say Maya-murder."

Murder. There's another possible thing that could have happened to Dorian. He could have been murdered.

I think that Xander noticed I had stopped breathing because he said, "Maya, could you not say things like that?! You can clearly see how stressed Quinn is about Dorian."

Mayanna scoffed again, "Excuse me? And what the hell makes you think that you know better than I do?"

"Oh, I don't know," Xander replied, "It might just be because I'm not some self-centered bitch."

"Really, Xan?" Maya chortled, "You know I'm right, so you've resorted to name-calling?"

"Is that how you're playing this?" Xander scoffed, "God, Maya, you always have to be right, don't you? Even if it causes your friend pain? You're such a control freak."

Mayanna paused for a moment, a smirk creeping its way unexpectedly onto her expression, "Well, Xan, I didn't see you complaining about that last night."

"Well-- I--..." Xander tried to reply, but Mayanna had rendered him speechless with her ability to change a conversation's tone at any given moment. She grinned, standing up and brushing off her jeans for dramatic effect.

"Well, I'm going to grab us some gin so we can drink the night away and forget about this asshole, alright?" Maya stated, although I doubted that she was really looking for permission as she strode away without another word.

That's when I noticed Xander had drawn his hand over his face, leaning back in his chair, muttering something under his breath.

"Xander?" I asked, "Are you okay?"

When he drew his hand away, I was surprised to notice a warm smile on his face.

"Yeah," he replied, "I'm fine. It's just that... I think I'm falling in love with her."
