"I'll see you after school. And don't be late again!"
I roll my eyes and smile, swinging my backpack over my shoulder. "I won't mom. That was only once," I say. She smiles and waves me goodbye. I jump outside with my denim jacket and quickly turn to the sidewalk. Cold air soaks up warmth around my skin quickly, causing goosebumps. I shiver. I walk up the block.
Taking a deep breath, I turn to look at my best friend Jacey's house. I always stand and wait no matter how long it takes. Sometimes she's slow, too early, or rarely actually on time. I cross my arms.
I was getting colder. It was an early spring day. The air felt moist and smooth, but the chilliness struck like thunder once you got out.
"Oh hey Emma," I hear distantly. I smile and take a few steps forward, my toes almost touching the curb.
Jacey steps out of her house in her normally loose, black sweater. Her long hair that dropped down near her shoulders. I could see eyeliner and mascara from here. Her lip piercing becomes visible once she stands next to me. I smile and take a step forward.
"You never fail to make me feel basic," I scoff. She smiles softly.
Well, I never try," she says shrugging. "And I'm taking that as a compliment." She points to me and raises her eyebrows. I push her hand and keep my eyes forward, spotting Treverton Eagles High, the worst school ever built. I sigh.
"I hate this fucking place," I mumble. Jacey clicks her tongue sympathetically, wrapping her arm around my shoulders. "Me, too. But at least you're here. You make it cool," she smiles, pulling me forward. I couldn't help smile back. Jacey is the only person who gets me.

●"So, got any plans tonight?" Jacey questions on our way home. I didn't, but I couldn't tell her that. "Yeah."
She stops me in front of her and grabs my shoulder near her house. My eyes catch her piercing. It was new, and the result of a high, drunk, stupid Jacey who really just knows how party, just like all teens.
"C'mon dude. I can totally see right through you." She says. I keep my eyes on hers. Her hands tightly grip my shoulders. "Why don't you want to hang out with me?" She pouts, a slow grin growing on her face.
"My mom told me I can't be late coming home. I can't be drinking anymore, either." I say. I grab her arms and pull them off of me. "I'm not going to your crazy parties anymore either, Jace."
"Man, fuck parents! They just want to control our best years." She says with a sarcastic tone. I nod and clench my jaw. "Well I love my mom. I can't do that to her. Sorry." I say looking down for a moment. "I'll see you tomorrow."
She gulps and nods, slowly walking to her house. "I'll, uh, see you then. Bye." she says. I curl my lips and wave. I stand there long after the door shuts. I always feel somewhat lonely. This time was super lonely. I sigh, making my way home.
I turn in my driveway and open the door. A loud honk makes me jump a little. My heart skips a beat. Looking out in the street I see a Sedan. I furrow my eyebrows. The car looked frozen in time. It was paused in front of my house.
I was getting a little creeped out, but happened to catch a small glance at the driver. He seemed to have black curls. I shrug it off and make my way into the front door. The car drives away. I take a deep breath and forget it. Surely it was nothing, right?
