I've been here for two days. It's time to make my 'great escape'. I looked over to the clock on the side table of the bed. It is 3:00 am. I got up and put my bag over my shoulder. As I walked to the window I hear a door close. I opened the window and put my foot over it. I stepped out of the window and onto the roof. When I looked down I let out a breath of relief. The house was three stories and I'm on the second, luckily there were vines that looked strong enough to hold me.
I climbed down the vines and stopped at the window, scooting over so no one would see me. I peeked in and Asher and the same blonde guy that is always with him, damn I really need to learn his name, were in the kitchen drinking beer and laughing about something. I rolled my eyes and continued down the vine. Then I saw that Asher left the kitchen. I panicked and quickly got off the vine and ran off into the forest. I know I said I didn't want to be a werewolf anymore but now is a good time to unleash it and run my ass off. I quickly shifted and ran grabbed my bag off the ground with my mouth. I ran faster when I heard yelling behind me. Shit, shit, shit! I thought to myself.
I started to see the glow of the town and I knew I had to shift back, otherwise someone would see me and the wolf's out of the bag. I quickly changed into some regular clothes and ran as fast as I could through the woods, finally reaching the busy town. I heard yelling from behind me and dashed off again. I saw a night club that looked fairly busy so why not.
When I walked in, it was much more crowded than I thought. I pushed through the bodies that were dancing. A couple guys tried to stop me and ask if I wanted to dance or if I was interested in having, and I quote, 'The best ride of my life.' I laughed at his lame pick up line and went straight to the bar.
"Shot of rum." I told the bartender. He stood there with wide eyes, yeah rum is strong but that's how I like my alcohol.
"A little girl like you taking drinks like that? You sure?" He asked. I rolled my eyes and nodded. He went behind the bar and made the shot and then handed it to me. I threw it back and sighed, the burning feeling in my throat felt good. Unfortunately I can't get drunk, so there were really no escapes for my problems.
I turned myself around to look at the crowd when I spotted Asher and that guy that's always with him. I got out of my seat and walked quickly, pushing people out of the way, and to the door outside. There is no way I can just rent a car because it's 3 am and nothing is open... That doesn't mean I can't steal one. I looked over to my right and saw an old pick-up truck that looked run down. Eh, no one would miss it.
I walked over to it and opened the unlocked door. I hotwired it and got it started. I had to hot wire my car a couple times at home to get it going again so I guess you could say I'm a pro at it. I got in the front seat and started driving.
Drive, drive, drive. Whatever happens, don't stop. Just get to the next couple states over. Speaking of states, where the hell am I? About ten minutes of the drive I hear a car vroom from the side of me. Damn roads for double lanes on both sides. I looked over and of course, it was Asher. He was in the passenger seat so I'm guessing he could talk to me. My window was rolled down and so was his.
"Where the hell are you going?!" He shouted. I rolled my eyes, but not taking them off the road.
"I'm leaving. I told you, I can't stay here."
"You are NOT leaving. Pull the damn car over- Wait, where the hell did you get a car?!" I glanced over and smiled slightly at his surprised expression.
"I hotwired it." I simply said. Before he could say another word I blasted the radio with my iPod that was in my bag. This car had an iPod cord to play in your car so why not. I played 'Every Tear Drop Is a Waterfall' by Coldplay. I looked over at him quickly and saw that he was annoyed. Oh well, this is my life, not his. Yes I'm his mate and he's mine and that might sound cruel but I need some 'me' time. Even if that means giving up everything.
The car started chugging after about 30 minutes and I realized I needed gas. Asher was now behind me. I saw a 7/11 up ahead and turned into it. Once I parked by the gas pump, Asher came storming towards me. I rolled my eyes and got out of the car to put gas in it. He was now only a couple feet away from me, looking pissed beyond belief.
"Get in my car NOW." He demanded. I looked at him with a 'are-you-serious' facial expression. His face remained hard.
"No. I'm not living with you!" I shouted. I put the gas pump back and got in the front seat. I was about the close the door but he stopped me. I glared at him and he did the same.
"I'm coming with you." His words surprised me. He'd come with me? Is this a mistake that I'm leaving?
"No, I don't want to be around werewolves and YOU are an ALPHA. You can't just leave." I told him. He grunted in frustration and I felt guilty.
"Please don't leave. Give me a chance." He pleaded his face now softer. He looked vulnerable and I wanted to cry. I turned my body so that my legs were on both sides of him and wrapped my arms around his neck for a hug. He without hesitation put his arms around my waist. He breathed in my scent and I put my head in his neck. A few tears streamed down my cheek and I pulled away and wiped them away with my hand.
"I can't stay." I whispered, still slightly sobbing.
"Tell me why. Please just come back home and tell me. You can leave if you want but please give me a reason." His hands were on the tops of my thighs, and he was looking into my eyes.
"Can I tell you here?" I asked.
"Yes, let me tell Colton that we'll be here for a few more minutes. Don't move." He said and I nodded. So that was his name! Colton, yeah that suited him pretty well.
He returned and nodded for me to go on about my story. "Well, my pack was pretty... Violent and I've never been that way. They trained the wolves to hunt, and to kill. If you weren't strong in the pack you were either killed or beaten." I stopped to catch my breath. "As the alpha's daughter, I was expected to be a strong role in the pack and be the 'head beater'. This means I would have to kill and beat trespassers or people that weren't strong enough in the pack. The problem was that I, myself, wasn't strong enough to be in the pack.
"I ran away from the pack the night they told me what I was to become and had to be. I didn't realize that I was in another pack's territory until I met Colton, I'm guessing he's your beta." I said, he nodded. "So when I arrived here- By the way, where is, here?" I asked.
"You're in Colorado." He said. Oh, Colorado?! So I'm only a couple states away from California.
"Okay, but anyway. I am now here and I was hoping to go to California and start a new life. A life as a human. Because as you know, once you settle down and don't use you wolf anymore, you will be an official human. And I guess, that's what I want. I finished college last year and wanted to be a teacher, have a husband, children, and grandchildren. I want friends that I can come over and play stupid board games and get drunk and laugh. Have a life filled with memories. I don't want to be in a pack anymore. I don't want my life to be controlled by wolves and rules. I don't want to kill anyone or beat them because they trespassed. I want to fall in love and go on dates. Eventually get married. You're my mate. I know this, but right now, I can't be here. I can't be here and be happy." I finished with a deep breath. He looked like he was about to cry.
He wrapped his arms around my waist and put his head on my shoulders. I wrapped my arms around his neck. "I'm sorry." He whispered. "I'm so sorry I can't give you the life that you want, I'm so sorry I'm not good enough." He said again, his voice cracking. I pulled away and cupped my hands on his cheeks. "Asher, you are good enough. I'm not good enough. I'm selfish and I hate it. All I want to do is live a human life for a while. If I don't enjoy I'll come back, if I do... Well I don't know. But just know that you are just beyond words. I'm so sorry." I told him. He shook his head and wrapped me up in a hug again.
This time he pulled away and cupped his hands around my cheeks. "I will wait for you. I'll always wait for you." He told me. I nodded and pressed my lips against his. He kissed me back and I pulled away. "I'll see you soon." I told him. He nodded and kissed me one last time before slowly walking back to his car. A few tears ran down my cheeks, I started the car and began to drive away. All the way to California.
