There was ringing in my ears and my vision was blurred through the tears which instantly grew within my eyes, trying to protect me from what was in front of me. No, poor child, you do not need to see the one you love killed right before your very eyes.
I was still screaming his name...
Zachery had reacted as fast as any human could have, and Giles' suspicions meant that he was in through the door like a bolt of lightening when he heard my shrieks.
The blade had merely skimmed the surface of Zachery's torso before Jeremy's wrist was snapped away by Giles with such force that I believe something snapped. Zachery had attempted to back his body away as far as he could, but Giles was the one to stop this. He had crashed in so fast with no hesitation in his actions, that if you had blinked, you'd of missed everything. That's why Jeremy didn't retaliate. It was already too late for him.
Once Giles thrashed Jeremy's hand against the wall behind him, the scalpel dropped to the ground with an eerie clink that echoed far louder than what it should have. Giles wasted no time before connecting his fist with Jeremy's face, causing a sickening crunch to escape from Jeremy's nose. I know he deserved it wholeheartedly, but the sound of the bone crunching still caused my stomach to drop.
After being struck, Jeremy began to realise what had happened; it had all been so fast that he was only now beginning to catch up. He tried to aim a swing at Giles, barely even reaching mid-way between the two of them before Giles grabbed onto his clenched hand, pulling and twisting it round harshly behind his back, which looked utmost uncomfortable to say the least. Jeremy's whimpers every time Giles tightened the angle that Jeremy's arm was held at, indicated it felt much worse.
I pulled my attention away from them as soon as I realised I hadn't heard Zachery utter a word throughout Giles' entrance. I turned my gaze towards his expressionless face as he held a bloody hand to his stomach.
"Zachery!" I shouted as I ran towards him. "How bad is it?" The tears in my eyes began to dry as the adrenaline began to take over my body again. Zachery gave me a tired, but sly grin.
"It's nothing to worry about, Kitten." He removed his hand from his stomach to show me the surface wound he had sustained. He was right, it wasn't too bad, but bad enough to cause a fair amount of blood. "Shame about the suit though. However, it does now match your dress quite superbly." He glanced between both of our blood stained outfits, and let out a soft chuckle, even with Giles and Jeremy breathing heavily in front of us.
Giles looked fiercer than ever as he looked us over, evaluating any damage done. He seemed to accept the situation before him and retracted his eyes back to Jeremy, who was still trapped in an arm lock.
"We all need to get out of here, now. The fire is spreading at an alarming rate. It won't be long until they are engulfing this floor as well." He spoke calmly, which was in complete contradiction to the situation, but he was well trained for disasters. "Come on, hurry!" He began to drag Jeremy out of the room and motioned for us to follow him, and quick.
