My heart skipped a beat.
Click.
That sound was very well known to me. It was the sound of a gun when it cocked.
"Hands behind your head," a deep, male voice sounded behind me.
A voice that probably belonged to none other than Gerald.
Shakily, I raised my hands and placed them behind my back.
"Now, get up!" He ordered.
Trembling, my legs lifted the weight of my body.
The muzzle of the gun was pushed against my back.
"What's your name?" He asked.
"Sarah," I lied.
"Who sent you here?" He ordered.
"Nobody," I gulped.
"You answer me right now or I will put ten bullets through your head," he threatened moving the gun up my back and to the back of my head forcefully.
"I'm just an ordinary thief," I swallowed. "I needed some cash to buy myself some drugs."
"Have you taken me for some idiot?" He laughed. "I'm going to give you one last chance."
"I swear!" I screamed.
"You asked for it," he said through gritted teeth.
Clasped by fear I forced my eyes shut, waiting for the trigger to go off.
"I warned y-" He started.
BOOM!
Pain surged through my body as I fell to the ground in a pool of blood. A piercing, sharp agony ran through my body making me scream.
I lay there for a couple of minutes not knowing what to do, how to react, or maybe just waiting for a demon to take me up to hell. Then I slowly decided to stand up, but my foot couldn't bear my weight, blood was oozing out of it like water bursting from a pipe. He'd shot me in the foot? My hands rummaged around my head trying to find a wound, but I couldn't feel any pain and there was no blood there either. What had changed his mind and made him decapitate my foot instead of my head? My head jolted around expecting to see Gerald holding a gun to my head. However, what I saw shook me to my depth.
My jaw dropped in shock.
It couldn't be, I thought. Was I dreaming? I pinched myself vigorously, but nothing changed.
Trembling I extended my arm so I could feel her face, to ensure it wasn't a ghost, but I tripped over a peculiar figure on the ground and lost my balance only to fall into the arms of the person in front of me.
"Oh my God," I screamed in panic.
Gerald was laying on the floor, encircled in his own blood with a metal rod resting next to him on the floor.
"He'll survive," she laughed. "Just a little blow to his head."
"Are you real," I gasped looking into her eyes as she helped me regain my balance by throwing my arm over her shoulder.
"You thought you could get rid of me that easily," she laughed.
"But I saw you die," I gasped.
"Didn't I tell you my middle name's Jesus," she joked.
"Mia!" A familiar masculine voice sounded.
"Andrew!" I screamed in disbelief.
"Let's go," he ordered ignoring my presence.
Mia started to walk me out of the room, but I refused to move.
"Mia, he's from the Patriots," I whispered.
"I know," she added.
"We can't trust him," I emphasised.
"I'll explain later, but right now we've got to move," she urged.
"Wait! His laptops on the floor over there," I instructed, pointing to his rusty laptop which was now dabbed with blood.
Andrew picked it up and left the room with me and Mia edging behind him.
We left the Gerald residence, with me still in shock and utter disbelief that I was latching on to none other than Mia. The same Mia I had seen get blown up at an ancient theatre. The same Mia I thought had been ripped into pieces by a massive explosion. How was she still alive? Was she seriously related to Jesus?
Just then the realisation that I was missing Damon came over me.
"Mia we have to go back," I stopped.
"Carry on walking," she instructed.
"I can't," I exclaimed. "Damon's still in there. We have to save him."
"Damon?" She questioned.
I nodded furiously, thinking about what could happen to him if he was caught in there with Lusiana. God knows what he was up to. Knowing that it would all be my fault made it even worse, because if I had gotten out on the time we'd agreed none of this had to happen. But no, my curiosity could've led to not only me dying but Damon getting killed too, and no matter how I felt towards him he'd helped me through the worst time of my life and risked his life for me, me, a nobody.
"What are you on about." She continued. "There was no Damon."
No Damon.
