It was early on a Wednesday morning when I was walking through town when I saw some boys chopping wood and a huge pile next to them that they still needed to chop. Going up to them I asked if they needed any help and as usual I was pushed away with them telling me that I couldn't help because I was a female. Letting my head fall I continue walking getting to the town bakery I knock on their door to see if they are open since we don't use signs. And all businesses open once the first family wakes up, well everything but the bar that's always open. The door opens and Mrs. Tomson is shown behind it, seeing my solemn face invites me in.
"Dear what happened this time?" you see I come to Mrs. Tomson whenever I feel down because I don't have a mother. She had died at my birth.
"Just the normal, why can't women do jobs that the men do?" I ask again for the thousandth time this year.
"You know why our town goes by the old traditions." she sighs.
"I know but it's not fair I've heard of places that women and men are treated the same for the most part, with them having the same jobs." I wine.
"Now darling your eighteen stop acting like your five." we both laugh at this then she continues "Now can you open the door and I'll get your normal order ready okay?"
"Okay Mrs. Tomson." I say walking to the door.
"I told you to call me June not Mrs. Tomson, it makes me feel old."
Chuckling I saw "Sorry but you know who my father is." she nods then walks to the back. A few moments later she returns with four loaves of bread and a smaller bag confused I ask "What's that?"
"Its for you dear. I hope your day gets better." June says I thank her and leave seeing that my father would want breakfast soon. going down the streets again I see the same boys chopping wood still, though there are more people walking the streets. As I pass by a few stores I hear someone call out my name. Turning to the shout I see Tyler the young man my dad wants me to marry.
I turn back around and continue on my way knowing he will catch up. On cue I hear his steps run up to me like everyday. Now Tyler is twenty so not much older than me, he has black long hair, hazel eyes and a medium build. He is a kind guy yet I find myself disliking the guy and weather that's because my dad wants me to marry him or if he is not the right one for me. Either way my heart just disagrees with fathers decision.
"Why didn't you stop?" Tyler asks.
"I have to get home father is going to wake up soon and I need to have breakfast at least started. You know this my answer never changes." I reply voice monotone. I look to the left to see that he looked disappointed. I also see that he is wearing blue jeans and a blue shirt. "You know I don't mean to hurt you its just tiring that's all, my life is just repeating each day. I'm sorry Ty."
"No it's okay, do you mind if I join you guys for breakfast?" he asks.
"Of course not." that's one thing I really like about Tyler he asks me if he can come over other men just tell me they are coming over, and he cares about what I say. As the conversation ends we arrive at the house. Walking in I see my dad walking down the stairs. "Hi dad Tyler is joining us for breakfast, I was thinking about doing bacon, eggs, and toast is that alright?" receiving a grunt I smile and head to the kitchen.
About ten minutes later I bring out three plates setting one in front of dad one for Tyler and mine off to the side. "Coffee for you dad?" he gives me a nod "Tyler what would you like?"
"I'll take a coffee as well if I can." Ty tells me. I return to the kitchen gathering our drinks getting myself a coffee as well.
"So Tyler would you like to help around the shop today?"
