I tried to tell myself that I was dreaming, but when I pinched myself, it hurt. I sat there in shock.  How was my one name chosen out of thousands? My sister excitedly came and sat next to me.

"I cannot believe this! You get to meet Prince Easton!" she screamed into my face. I kept staring at the TV.

"Are you not a tiny bit happy?" Breklyn asked me. I shook my head. How could I be happy, this was not what I wanted. I faced my mother.

"What happened to my small chance?" I tried to sound calm, but my mother could sense the anger rising in my voice.

"A small chance does mean no chance." She said calmly. I was mad at her. I was mad at the palace and the royal family. I am the last person they want in the Queenstrial. I put my back to my family and turned to face the TV.

"To all of the chosen, congratulations. Tomorrow at exactly 8 a.m. an officer from the palace will pick you up and bring you to the palace." king Clarkson announced. I stood up and went to my room.

A small voice inside my brain told me to be happy. I was getting to meet the royal family, and stay in a palace. But I did not want to live in a palace. I liked my small home and being with my family. How was I supposed to leave it? And how long was I going to be there? I wanted to help my family out, and finally get a job, but how was I supposed to do that if I have to leave. All of the questions that ran through my mind got me overwhelmed.

I heard the door open, and I saw my mother standing there. "I don't want to leave," I said.

"I know, but I don't think you plan on staying there forever, right?" I nodded. I was going to try and leave as fast as possible.

"See, so then go get out of the house for a bit, and maybe meet some new people." Mother stood up to leave but turned and faced me.

"You may even have some fun." She smiled then turned around and left.

I skipped dinner and stayed in my room. I put aside two days' worth of clothes since I knew I would be wearing large dresses. I stayed in my room for the rest of the night. Eventually, Aaron came in to go to bed. He normally went to bed early since he had to leave for work early in the morning.

I could not sleep most of the night. I just lay in my bed thinking about leaving. I knew that I should stay back to help my family. I did not want to go live in a palace and fight for a guy I did not even like. I did not even think he was that hot. Well maybe a little, but that's beside the point. I wanted to stay at home.

Before I knew it, it was the next morning and I was leaving in a few hours. I had breakfast for the last time at my house, I had no idea how long I could be gone, but it felt like it was going to be forever.

I heard a knock on the door. I looked at the clock and saw that it was 8 a.m. I opened the door and saw two officers standing at the door.

"Are you Megan Beckett?" one of them asked. I nodded my head. My family came to the door to see.

"You have five minutes to say goodbye." The same officer added. The other grabbed the small bag I had packed. It was filled with an extra pair of clothes, and books.

I said goodbye to my brother first. Since we were not very close, he was going to be the easiest to say goodbye to. We both said we would miss each other, and I told him to stay safe in the mines and not hurt himself again.

Next was my mother. She put her arms around me tightly.

"I am going to miss you so much." She said.

"I won't be gone for that long," I assured her. She stopped hugging me and looked into my eyes.

"try to have fun for me." She begged. I nodded my head just so I could get away from that topic.

"One of the officers said that we will get paid from the palace so you will not have to worry about us." She told me. I was glad my family was still going to get money even when I was gone.

"You know I will worry." Mother hugged me again, then I went to Breklyn. Just like my mother, she hugged me.

"Don't miss me too much," I said. I felt her hug me tighter.

"Too late," she said. "You better write to me, and tell me what Prince Easton is like." She added.

"I know."

"Miss Beckett, it is time to go." One of the officers said to me. I gave each of my family members one last hug before I followed the officers out of my house.

When I went outside, I saw a large group of people outside my house. They were all congratulating me, and wishing me luck. Some of them were throwing flowers at me. A group of girls who looked about eighteen kept saying how lucky I was. The officers pushed the mob back and made space for me to walk. I kept my head down, I hated this much attention, even if I knew that I was going to be the middle of attention at the palace.

The officers stopped at a large black car. I reached for the door handle, but one of them stopped me.

"Allow me."

"I'm pretty sure I can open a door," I retorted. The officer stood back, stunned by my outburst.

The interior of the car was all leather and had a minibar and long couch-like seats. I had never been in such a fancy vehicle before. The two officers got into the front of the car and the car started moving. I watched my family and my house get smaller and smaller, till they were gone.
