"What if we did roses?" I requested. I was looking through a large book with different types of flowers that we could use.
"No. We have to do lilies, they love lilies." Chloe explained. We wanted opposite things. She wanted lilies, I wanted roses. We never agreed on the same things, and she kept telling other people what to do. If something was not the way she wanted it to be, she would flip out.
Our group was theming our dinner towards the Eastern Islands. Most of our decoration was themed to be the colors of their flag, white and blue. Harper came over to our group to see how we were doing.
"Oh, everything is going great! This will be the best dinner you have ever had." Chloe said, cheerfully.
"Great!" Harper said. I rolled my eyes and hoped no one saw. I wondered how long it took Chloe to learn to be so good at lying. When Harper left, Chloe started telling everyone what to do again.
"Megan, go figure out where we can get large bouquets of these flowers." She handed me a list of the flowers she wanted.
"Why can't you?" I asked.
"I'm busy with the tablecloths." I looked at the list of the flowers she wanted me to get.
"When did we all agree on these flowers?" I asked.
"Well I figured they would work since they are the colors and national flowers of the Eastern Islands." I was ready to start yelling at her, but I knew that would not be a good idea, I didn't want to make a scene.
In the next few days, each group got prepared for the day that the Eastern Islands were going to arrive. My maids made me a blue ballgown that matched the blue on the Eastern Islands flag. It was simple, with only a little bit of design around the neck and waist.
I managed to stay calm most of the time when I was around Chloe. I tried to focus on getting dinner to be perfect. During the times we were not working, Katrina would talk about what her group is like. She was pretty quiet and let the rest of her group do most of it. She explained how a girl named Stacy was doing most of the work. Farley told her about how Chloe did the same thing.
"And Megan loves to argue with her." I may have wanted to deny it, but Farley was right.
"That does not surprise me." Katrina smiled at me.
The day that the Eastern Islands arrived was chaotic. My group made sure that the dining hall was set up just the way that we wanted, or the way Chloe wanted. Then we were all supposed to go to the entrance of the palace to welcome the Eastern Islands.
We were told to stand in one long line. Harper suggested that we stood with our groups, so I stood next to Farley, and Katrina was three people down. The royal family came and stood in front of us.
An officer walked in to announce the royal family of the Eastern Islands had arrived. I stood up a little straighter and waited for them to walk through the door. When they did, my eyes went to the princess. She looked to be about my age, and wore a beautiful ballgown that was blue on the top, and faded to white on the bottom.
"Welcome king Harrison, and Queen Amber," King Clarkson said.
"It is an honor." King Harrison bowed. The queen gestured for their princess to step forward.
"May we introduce our daughter, Princess Naomi River of the Eastern Islands." Princess Naomi stepped forward for everyone to see her.
"You are the same age as all of these girls." The Queen commented. She gave us a small smile before stepping back to her parents.
Both royal families talked for a while before we went to the dining hall. My group walked in first to get into our positions. Everyone else came in and looked around. Some people would point out the colors, or the set up we had. They all took their seats and we had the servants bring out the food we chose.
"Today, you will be eating a traditional Avalon smoked salmon from the Manila Bay, with a fruit salad on the side," Chloe announced. I looked around at everyone to see if we were off to a good start. I was supposed to give a small toast to welcome the Eastern Islands, so when the rest of my group sat down I remained standing.
"I would like to welcome the royal family from the Eastern Islands." I caught Farley's attention and she gave me a small nod.
"I hope you enjoy your stay here, and these two wonderful meals you will receive from my group tonight, and the second group tomorrow." I raised my glass, and everyone followed.
When I finished my toast I sat back down. I looked around and watched everyone eat our meal. Luckily, it seemed that everyone was enjoying it.
When dinner was over, a few of the girls came up to me and told me how good of a job we did. Harper came up to me as well to congratulate me.
"And your toast was pretty good." She added, before going to talk with King Clarkson. I saw princess Naomi walking around looking at our decoration, I decided to go introduce myself.
"Welcome to Avalon," I said. She responded with a simple thanks.
"You did a really good job on your toast." She complimented. I felt my cheeks get red.
"I'm serious, you sounded like a queen." I couldn't believe what she had told me.
"Thank you for that, but I don't plan on winning," I said.
"That's fine, I understand. Just think about it." Princess Naomi said before she turned to go back by her parents.
I thought about what princess Naomi said to me all of the next night at dinner. I watched Katrina stand around watching everyone eat their meals. Stacy did most of the talking while the rest of the group asked if everything tasted fine.
Once we were done with dinner, the chosen were told to meet in the lounge for results. Katrina, Farley, and I were in the corner talking about each of our dinners.
"You guys clearly did better," Katrina complained. I knew she was right, but I didn't want to make her feel bad.
"I just don't feel ready to go home yet," She said. Harper walked in with a small sheet of paper in her hand.
"I am going to make this quick and simple." She started. "It might be clear to some of you who did better, so I am here to say that group one was the favorite." The girls applauded us. Katrina was worried, so I told her to go relax in her room.
I took my own advice and went back to my room as well. I still was not talking to August. I barely even looked at him. I was not in my room for long when someone knocked on my door. Katrina was standing on the other side. Her eyes were red and she had mascara running down her cheeks.
"I being sent home."
