The first time I saw her she was a blur, a blur hugging a blondie. Then the blonde walked away, boarding the bus. It was the same story for most of us, one parent per family, not many siblings, if none. Then a mysterious flyer appearing out of nowhere including address and phone number of a camp that matched each of their needs for their children, they call, get hooked, and send them here. Peculiar and significant are the words they usually use to describe their child, but it's much more than that.
Her blur was small but the way she held herself you could tell she was mature. Now's your time Richy!
After I calmly introduced myself, I then realized the new girl was crying. Not only am I not good at talking to girls, but to crying girls! Gee, I was screwed. I held out my hand and awkwardly pat her shoulder. She looked up at me, gosh did she look offended!
"Uh, Hi." Pause for a little bit more awkward. "I'm Whitney...Evans. Where am I?"
"Camp Owanoya, a camp for all the kids with something crazy goin' on in their blood. What's it that you can do?" I asked trying to be friendly and all but she just seemed to get even more offended. I am not good at this! I was just about to apologize when she began talking.
"What can you do? What is that supposed to mean." I just then noticed how firey her eyes looked, they were like...amber or something, I admit I got a tiny bit nervous.
"Well there are 40 levitators, 30 windbreakers, not the jackets, 14 water breathers, 18 shapeshifters, 16 dissolvers, 30 immortals, 22 imitators, 2 mind readers, and 100 unknowns. How's that for ya'?" I said with a smile.
She looked a little confused and shocked. "What are windbreakers, imitators and dissolvers?" She looked at me after she asked, she had to look a little bit of a ways up to see my face fully, I'm a bit tall.
"Okay, so windbreakers are people who can control wind, like that avatar kid. Imitators are like those lizards that can change colors and patterns of their skin to match the thing they want to become, and dissolvers are people who can disappear into the mist, like they fade into air." I said dramatically though all was true though she didn't look like she was paying full attention, then I noticed the worried look on her face, I wanted to pat her on the back and say yo dude, it's okay, but she wasn't a guy so that might be weird and it definitely wouldn't help.
"You don't have anyone like me." I got interested quick.
"What are you like?" I asked trying to sound sympathetic.
She turned her red head away from me, and when she looked back to me, her already fiery eyes were literally blazing, the the flames spread from her eyes to her skin and all around her body melting the snow under her, but her clothes stayed undamaged. It all stopped as suddenly as it started. "You. Are. Awsome." I said not hiding my shock.
It was Whitney's turn to look surprised. "Are...are you sure? You seriously don't think I'm a freak?' Her question sounded genuine and it shocked me, does she really think that of herself.
"Why would I?" Whitney looked away and then back at me smiling. Her teeth were perfectly straight and white, her amber eyes complimented her mahogany hair well. She is really pretty. "Why dont we go introduce yourself to the head of this camp, his name is Mr.Flarity." I started to walk and she followed me like I wanted. Her hair bounced behind her as she walked and her elbows swung from her pockets. She almost made me laugh. A funny walk for a dangerous girl.
We walked over to the campfire and turned left towards the cabins. The one cabin in the middle was birch as all the others were oak. The sign on the door read Go Away. A couple years ago he had put up that sign as a joke, he was just too lazy to take it down. Whitney looked a little frightened.
