chapter XVIII

i still remember the day you walked into the buzzfeed office the first time. i remember the day i first realized how important you are to me. i remember every single one of our intimate moments, they're carved into my mind. i don't know when it happened, but you became a part of me.

i hope i'll be able to remember this day for the rest of my life. i want to be able to think back and relive this moment everyday. because this is the moment the man i love asked me to marry him.

and in that moment, what else could i do but say yes.

ryan stood there, staring into shane's eyes. he felt frozen in time. a million memories were buzzing through his head, and he was unable to pick one to focus on. he suddenly felt shane's hand brush his cheek.

"you alright ryan?"

his voice had a warm and loving tone. he could tell just from the way he talked how much shane cared about him.

"yes i..."

ryan reached up to his cheek, where shane's hand was, and felt moisture on it. he had been crying. at this realization he felt his head stop spinning. the moment finally manifested into ryan's reality.

"you just asked me to marry you"

"i did." shane smiled as he looked down at ryan. "i understand if it's too soon for you though. i've just never been more sure about anything in my life than i am about you..."

ryan took his arms and wrapped them around shane. he held the man close to himself, feeling his heart beat against his own.

"of course i will marry you shane" he whispered.

the two walked hand in hand as they made their way down the hill. ryan kept stealing glances at his new ring. he would smile to himself every few seconds. shane noticed this and it caused him to smile too.

back at home, shane said he had to go take a shower. ryan told him to take his time.
he had something planned.

when shane got out of the shower, he walked out into the living room. it took him a few seconds to realize what he was staring at. the scene was so perfect; it was something straight from shane's imagination.

a series of candles marked a path from the bathroom door into the kitchen, where ryan had set up a chocolate cake and sprinkled some rose petals around. shane didn't notice how much he was smiling until ryan began to chuckle.
"i wanted to do something nice for you too..."

"you already did that."

"when...?"

"when you said yes."

now ryan has made his way over to shane and embraced him. he let their bodies melt together as he pressed his face against shane's chest. they stood like that for a while, then shane whispered into ryan's hair.

"let me go change into something nice."

"there's no need babe..." ryan said, as he took hold of the shower towel around shane and let it fall to the ground.
