Not Throwing Away My Shot!

I got to the theater after practice and I was burnt out. From school all the way to practice, Olivia avoided me which I couldn't be more glad about. When I got back stage, almost everyone was dressed and ready or getting miced. The only person still putting there costume on was Leslie. Of course.

"Hey, kiddo! How was school and practice?" Lin asked when I crashed on his couch.

"Tiring. Our first game is tomorrow so of course today was terrible."

"We should all to go your game," Leslie said as Tommy handed him a mic.

"You should not. What if we don't win? That'll be embarrassing."

"Nonsense. I think that's a great idea, Leslie. For once." Lin agreed.

"Where are we going?" Thayne asked popping his head in the door with a cookie.

"Nowhere. I want a cookie, though." I said standing up.

"I'm not giving you one until you tell me where we are all going!" Thayne screamed. That  caught the attention of Anthony and Daveed passing by.

"We're going somewhere! Deal, where?" Anthony asked.

"Thayne, do you want to explain to me why you're eating in costume?" Lin asked, opening the door fully. "By the way, tomorrow is Ella's first volleyball game and we should all go."

"Yes! We will go together to support this mini Miranda!" Oak said. Where had he come from?

"Places, everyone!" Tommy's voice rang through the mic.

"That's our cue. We're all coming by the way!" Lin said as the crowd split up.

"No, you're not!" I yelled after him. Ugh, when you have someone like Lin as your dad...

*Timeskip to the first volleyball game*

"Does my hair look okay? Is it going to fall out?" I asked Ashley for the seventh time in the locker room. It was braids, one on each side running together to end in a ponytail.

"You're fine. Calm down. I know you're nervous but just relax. You'll be fine."

"Ok fine. Breathe. Got it. I can do that."

"Alright, ladies. We are going to go out there and kill it, ok? Relax, don't get to tensed up, and let's just play some Hunter volleyball!" Ashley said.

"YESS!" we all screamed, pumped. And then all eyes went to me, co-captain.

"This is our court. This is our game. Let's show them how to run it. Right, ladies?"

"Right!" the team screamed.

"Alright, come on, ladies. Enough talking, more playing. Get on that court!" Coach yelled.

We followed her out. Ashley went up from coin toss, but lost. Coach put Ashely, Brittany, Katie, Marie, Olivia and me as starters. I waved to the cast that showed up. Lin and Seb were there along with Renee, Jazzy, Pippa, Daveed, Anthony, Oak, Thayne, Jonathan, and Chris.

We were neck to neck with our rivals as I stepped up to served. I looked to coach who told me and Ashley to run number 27. Jump serve to middle, and back over by the antenna.  I was so nervous to. Ashley gave me a nod of support.

The ball went exactly where it needed to go and back over the net and set up by Ashley, and blocked by Marie and Katie! I heard the cast screaming.

"YES YOU SHOW THEM SISTER!"

"GET IT ELLA!"

"Let's do that again, girls!" Ashley encouraged. I served one after another, scoring points for our team.

One last point and we would win. Just one good serve. I served underhand right over the net. It was set up and over the net again as Olivia accidently back set it and it went flying as I followed it, crashing into the sideline chairs but somehow still making contact with the ball. I tried to stand but everything was whirling around me. I heard a cheer but it sounded distant. Very, very distant. And then it went dark.

The phone rang.

"I'm sorry for your loss."

Elizabeth cried.

I'm sorry.

Sorry for your loss.

We have some news.

Some news, Ella.

Phone rang again.

A kinife covered in blood.

Scars.

Elizabath cried.

STOP IT!  I DON'T WANT TO SEE THIS.

The phone rang.

Bad news, I'm afraid.

The attic is nice for you.

You slut.

"Stop it!" I begged my mind. The scene shifted.

The cast was there smiling. There was water, no, I was in a box filling with water. I banged on the door.

"Help me!" They continued to stand there.

"Help me!" The water was filling more. I could barely stay afloat as my head hit the top. Before the water cosumed me.

"Hey, hey, calm down." Lin's face. "It's okay."

"Doctor, what was that?" Vanessa's voice asked. Lin was still hugging me.

"It's okay. I got you." he whispered before letting go.

A doctor stood there, in front of my bed with a clipboard. Vanessa and Lin sat at either side of the bed.

"That was  a severe anxiety attack. Miss Miranda, do you have any history of self-harm?"

Yes. The answer was yes. "No." the words slipped out of me mouth. "Not recently."

"But you have self-harmed before in your lifetime." He said.

"Yes."

"These attacks are most likely caused of tramua of some kind before. I'll perscribe you some pills to help with anxiety and sleep." he walked away.

"What? When?" Vaness asked, concerned. I simply moved my leg from out under the blanket. Scars covered the inner part of my calf.

"I've only had these attacks when I faint, it seems like. And that one time at home." I assured them, hoping to get them to stop worrying.

"Is sissy otay?" Seb asked, reaching for me.

"I'm okay, Seb. I promise." He climbed onto my lap and over to my leg.

"I know what these are, sissy." Seb said, tracing them. "They are from when people are mean, so you are mean to yourself. My friend at school as a sister who had alot of these. He told that she's on a vaction and won't come back. I don't want you to go vacation. I want you to stay."

Tears started leaking down my cheeks. "Yes, Seb. That's what they are. I won't leave you though, I promise." I hugged him close. If only Elizabeth was here.

I looked to see Vanessa's eyes welled with tears. Lin sat there, blankless, as if he couldn't process it. Vanessa threw her arms around me and Seb and Lin on top. We just sat there, hugging one another. Tommorrow isn't something to take for granted. We have one shot at life and I'm not throwing it away.
