ARTEMIS SAT IN SILENCE until her parents came rushing through the door.

"you have four minutes." a peacekeeper said before shutting the door behind them, leaving just the trio.

immediately artemis' mother, silvia, ran forward engulfing her in a large hug. "i am so proud of you." she mumbled into her shoulder. artemis pulled back and looked at her confused, wondering what made her proud. almost as if silvia could read thoughts, silvia spoke. "you have such a strong heart to protect ally all the time, some people wouldn't spare her a second glance. but i'm so proud that you can see past the outside, and have the strength to love others." her mother confessed causing artemis to tear up a little.

her father, john, pulled artemis into a hug quickly. "honey, we don't have much time. i need to tell you something." artemis pulled back to look her father in the eyes as he continued. "you can win it, i know you can."

"dad, i can barely throw a machete. i can use an axe to cut wood, not to cut people!" artemis exclaimed as her father cupped her face making sure that she knew he was being serious.

"artemis, you're named after the goddess of the hunt. you wouldn't bare that name if it didn't mean something." he reassured her. this knocked some sense into her, he was right. they probably had a minute max remaining, so her mother walked over to her one last time.

"artemis, i need to give something to you." she muttered as she unclipped a necklace around her neck and clipped it onto the younger girls. "your great grandmother took this into her games, she won. it's been our family luck ever since." artemis smiled brightly as her mother tucked a piece of the girls hair behind her ear.

"times up," a peacekeeper sternly said as a few more came in to grab her parents. artemis tried reaching out to grab them but they were too far.

"remember artemis, we love you! be brave!" her father called out just as the door behind them shut. artemis breathed out a shaky breath as the door opened once more, revealing her best friend.

"allison!" the paid engulfed eachother in a hug, the height difference was major. where artemis was 5'8" and ally was only 5'2", but they didn't mind. they were best friends after all.

"why would you do that for me?" ally cried as tears streamed down her face. artemis smiled and wiped the tears off of her face.

"because you would've done the same for me."

"oh bullcrap. look missy, i love you. but i'm a wuss." ally said jokingly and artemis laughed. "missy, you can win."
